I just found a 50%mohair/50% wool, black, sportcoat from filene's for $250. It's a Stewart model and supposedly from Barney's. I am guessing this is a good price and after hearing about the quality of this company I am really excited to own something of this level (a first for me).

One thing that is misterious is that there are chalk marks on the sleeves that show that they were to be shortened but it has working button holes. Anyone know what this might mean? Luckly for me they weren't since the sleeves are perfect for me.

Also I need to lengthen the jacket about an inch. Anyone know someone good in the D.C. metro area (maryland?)? Thanks

I've had very good luck with Field English Tailor in Georgetown. Will is a great guy and does a good job.

since it has working buttonholes, it probably was altered, but never picked up. If so, the chalk marks that were placed on the sleeve during the first alterations might never have been erased.

Good luck, but it's my understanding that not all new jackets can be lengthened. Not all makers have enough extra material for this to be done I think.

Perhaps one of our professional tailors might have an opinion.

Given the shape of the hem of a jacket, I believe that lengthening is, for all intents and purposes, out of the question.

the jacket can be lengthened about 1/2" at the center back.thats where you measured it. but there is no cloth to let down at the very front. so the new bottopm line will slant down from the front to the back. check the level of the coat bottom when on you. if the line is level or is down in back then dont alter it. if the bottom is shorter in back then do it.

Ok, here are the pics. Is it long enough in length and sleeve? Is it possible to have it taken in in the middle? I have excess room in the belly and chest. Excuse the mess, I've just moved.

On my monitor anyway, these are too dark to tell much.

Ok, lets try this again. Hopefully my photography skills have improved since yesterday. Is it long enough? Can I have it taken in around the middle. I have a weird build such that I have big hips and butt then a smaller waist. Basically I am built like a girl (a big scary one).

In this photo you can see how shiny it is. I've pretty much decided I can't wear this to work.

I think this is how the shoulder is supposed to look
