Unclear how you could leave off The Great Gatsby from this list, but it is GQ we are talking about here.

Some interesting choices there. I was particularly glad to see the inclusion of Stranger Than Paradise. In hindsight, it's style iconography of resurrected 50s/60s hipster clothes is very prescient.

The fact that The Great Gatsby is not on the list shows it cannot be taken seriously.

A number of others, as well. And, it depends on what they mean, by stylish.

It was boring and mostly predictable, though I laud them for choosing some movies that most wouldn't consider stylish (ex. Diner). I think we could have easily put together a list that would have blown that one out of the water.

Lets have your suggestions then....

My humble two pennyworth would include for starters

Diva (1981) Jean Jacques Beneix
Rififi (1957?) Jules Dassin
Chariots of Fire (????) ?????
L'avventura (1960?) Antonioni
The 10th Victim (1965) Elio Petri
The Third Man (1949) David Lean
The Italian Job (1969) Peter Collinson
If (1970) Lindsay Anderson
Le Mans (1970)
Bullitt (1968) Peter Yates
La Grande Illusion (1937) ???

Thank God North By Northwest was on that list. But A Clockwork Orange? Um. I don't see why so many people have a problem with no vents yet say NBNW is stylish. It's as if it's okay just because it's a '50s movie, but no one is allowed to wear unvented suits now just because.

OT, but is that Patrick Macnee as John Steed in your avatar?

On topic, they didn't include many films on that list. Of the list, I only agree with the inclusions of Get Carter and Ocean's 11. The others don't do it for me. But then again, this is GQ. We should be surprised they included any movies that came out before 10 years ago.
