****** merchandise usually require gimmicky advertising.

Not saying it's the case here, but just sayin'.

True but there are some nice looking labels there..and some I think look like crap.

My favorites are the Megalomaniac labels from Niagara. with their "SonofaBitchPinotNoir" Narcissistic Riesling" and such...

The only good wine I think I've ever had with an overdesigned bottle was Perrier Jouet's grand cru... it's good champagne with a really gay bottle.

Other than that, I prefer simple labeling. Penfolds always struck me as a bit cheap looking.

Aesthetically I don't think you can beat Yquem, it's very distinct.

Most look as though they would be more appropriate for a microbrew beer. The Sicani is nice, though.

Red Car makes a really damn good Syrah they call "The Fight." I have several bottles, of various vintages, and this is one of my favorite labels:

That first one would be pretty intimidating if it just showed up on your desk one morning.

I like the designs however a wine like a book should not be judged by its cover. A great wine takes the drinker into another dimension. A fancy label does not guarantee that.

As design, yes. Great link. But for wine, I find them repulsive.

Nice for coolers or for 5 dollar hollas.

I might look at them twice among the racks at a liquor store (which I suppose is the point) but not with a particularly positive eye. I agree with the comment about most of these being better suited as microbrew designs.
