1. I'd like to announce that animated avatars are now available again. You'll have to reload, but they are once more possible.

We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

^gammons was always a boston homer - stemming from his Boston Globe roots.

I remember hating Mora then they did that focus piece on him and his tons-o-kids that resulted from IVF treatments with his wife.

after that I rooted for him to get that next big contract .... he'll need every last penny to pay off all those simultaneous college tuitions.

I have a soft spot for Clemens. What I think is strange is that all the people who "know" that Bonds was a HOFer before he cheated and those who "know" that McGwire or Palmeiro would have only made the Hall because of "chemical aid" don't have a black or white position on Clemens. I think he's a HOFer.

DC has many homers, but my favorite memory of complete non-homerism comes from John Riggins back in 1998. The Redskins were gearing up the play the Minnesota Vikings and Riggins was asked if the Skins could win, Riggins responds "Not without a gatling gun!" Vikings 41 Skins 7.

Holy crap, according to ESPN, Sawx working on a mega-trade with the Dodgers that could include Crawford, Punto, Adrian Gonzalez, and Beckett. WTF?

The Gonzales part is really surprising, but the Crawford and Beckett parts make sense. And if they're going to give up Punto, they'd better get something really good in return.

That's an awesome move for both teams. In reality, this Red Sox roster isn't going anywhere and they're saddled with horrible contracts for non-performing players. The Dodgers would have to take Gonzalez, as they're not really getting anything in either Crawford or Beckett but the possibility of potential. I think Crawford is going to be shutdown for the season and Beckett's all but a waste of space. They've been bereft of someone at first base for years now as well. In return, the Sox get rid of somewhere in the range of $250 million off their books. Sounds like a win win.

I think Crawford already underwent Tommy John. He's going to be done for a few minutes.

You're right. I just read he's going to be on the shelf until after the start of the 2013 season. They're basically just dumping his salary at this point.

You're not supposed to take on salary & give up top young talent too. de la Rosa is a potential 1 or 2 in the rotation & Webster is the Dodgers's #2 prospect. I hope Kasten (& Colletti) were able to get money back too.

They got one of the top 10 first basemen in the game. Plus the possibility of a decent starter and outfielder. And Nick Punto.

For this to work wouldn't all players have to pass through waivers?? If I'm the Giants, why would I let this happen?

I think the Dodgers won the claims on them, or at least some of them. I'm not sure if in a multiplayer deal you need to have everyone pass through.

Oh yes. If you make any trade after the deadline all the players have to pass though waivers. That the Dodgers won claims on a couple of players isn't surprising, but I don't know if its going to work.

I think it will. No one else will be interested in taking on anywhere near that much salary.
