1. I'd like to announce that animated avatars are now available again. You'll have to reload, but they are once more possible.

We've been doing a ton of work behind the scenes. The site load speed was already under 1/2 of what Huddler's was, on average, and we installed cloudflare, which means that the site should be even faster. A ton more will go on in the weeks and months to come, and some things will be more visibile, and some less.

    Cheers,

    Fok.

Rondon has been erratic. He has given up hits, runs, but has K'ed 7 or so guys.

Me saying they are looking for a closer was based on one article I read. I haven't heard anything else refuting or supporting it.

They must know something about Al Al. I think it's because he is a tad fragile. If he walks a guy it's all downhill. If he Ks a guy he's unstoppable.

They have options tho so I hope they don't do something stupid.

I think that, in part, there is a distorting psychological effect from the "finality" of whatever happens when the closer comes in. Retire the side with the bases loaded in the 9th to preserve a one-run lead, and the game is over. Do the same in the 7th or 8th, and the game could still be lost in the subsequent inning(s), leading to the perception that the effort was "wasted".

I vaguely recall that Bill James once argued that, at least from a sabermetrics perspective, an NL team would be well-served by having a staff made up entirely of relievers and pinch-hitting every time the pitcher's spot in the batting order came up.

As I had to say repeatedly last year, I don't think you can write off a team based on early season performance but man... I don't know how they Yankees are going to do it. They're losing over half their HR production, they are old, they have some pretty big gaps to fill, it basically comes down to the rotation MUST be lights out and I just don't see that happening. Would be interesting to see the combined WAR they will miss through the first two months of the season.

Kuroda had some gems last year wasted due to shitty hitting. I don't think lights out pitching can save this team. It will be a long season for sure.
