He's too tall. A regular sized catcher wouldn't have let that splitter go through their legs like Wieters did. They scored it a wild pitch but that was a passed ball.

I'm sorry, I still don't understand. You said he's not a "real catcher." The statistics and general opinion show that not only is he a "real catcher," but he is one of baseball's best. He won the AL catching Gold Glove last year.

Here is but one alternative source:

    http://blogs.thescore.com/mlb/2012/...e-catcher-defense-ratings-final-2012-edition/

Ranks him 3rd in 2012, after being 1st last year.

You then say he's "too tall" and provide as evidence..........

    ...a single passed ball.

Here's what the statistics say, according to the above-named source:

    On throwing people out:

I'm not sure what else to say. It was a wonky play at home, and Wieters should have done better, but to say he's not a "real catcher" or that he's somehow "too tall" for the position is obviously nonsense.

Just the night before, he made an incredible pick on a bad throw to nail a guy at the plate that most catchers would never have made.

Look, I don't need your statistics. No player on the O's is a real player [IMG]

Most Yankee fans are boorish louts, but I have found the ones from NJ tend to be the thickest.

I lived in NJ during two years of my youth. A shameful fact.

I for one love the O's story this year. I've always been a fan of Buck and I think what he did with the O's is great for baseball in general, not to mention how the O's and Nats seasons have been a boon to the DC, NoVA, MD area. I just love baseball. Kinda hoping it goes to game 5 (which favors the Yankees, law of large numbers, homeruns, and all that).

I don't understand the attitude of yankee fans. they somehow manage to act both like they're fans of an underdog team (seriously $200mil much) AND be smug.

I'll take Gonzalez and Tillman and the possibility of Hammel going on 3 days rest against Kuroda, Hughes and a CC on short rest.

It's been fun to finally be competitive with the hated Yanks. Seriously, I don't ever think it's been so much fun to root for a team. O's are a gang of lovable losers who do it the right way, no big egos or divisive personalities on this team, and with a genius of a manager whose every press conference is as entertaining as the game itself. And to finally be winning games, and in the fashion that they have.... amazing.

Regarding law of big numbers though - season series is currently tied 10-10, overall runs scored 99-97 in favor of the Yankees. It's been dead close.

I used to be a huge baseball fan growing up as a kid but somehow I just lost interest as I got more into hockey. I grew up a huge Cal Ripken fan. Glad to see the O's finally doing a little something.

Anyways, unrelated, but I may be going to see the Nats/Cards on Friday if they make it to game 5 as my girlfriend's parents are coming into town and are big Cardinals fans. I would feel slightly guilty attending a playoff game having not followed much MLB over the last decade but will still have a blast I'm sure.

You people are easily trolled. By the way, the A's are this year's sweetheart team not the O's.

Good point about the matchup stats, however over the season the yanks have outscored and had more homeruns, hard to discount that as well. The ability to drive in runs is there. We'll just see which team pulls through in this particular series.

Interestingly, the O's have walked away with the series each time they visited Yankee Stadium this year :uhoh:

You can't be a sweetheart team and play on the west coast, nobody cares about you.
