17 AGE OF ANGER: A History of the Present by Pankaj Mishra
I've been thinking for a couple of days what to say about this.
The trouble we are in globally and nationally, where to begin, explored and articulated as a crisis of Post Enlightenment society. Me I found it fascinating others may find it like being in a locked room with someone shouting at them. A polemic for a our age that traces and describes both the roots and development of our (ever) current civil discontent with government, the church and the state.
While defining the malady that besets the world he offers no easy solutions but hints at potential self responsible solutions which start at the individual level. For this to occur then change has to potentially evolve at the community level then expand to the state and then well. Hard going but intellectually stimulating and thought provoking. Overall he does present a timely critique of the world as it is.
Rousseau lives. Highly recommended.
