Nice to see Australia put up a solid fight. Will be interesting to see them next World Cup. Was not expecting this from Spain...

Three times in the last four WC, the holder craps out in the group stage.

But I thought Spain was the greatest footballing power in the history of mankind...invincible, they were never going to lose again??

They had an amazing run those 4ish years which they should be very proud of. No one can take that away from them and I do tip my hat. The arrogance was a bit much to say the least.

I just find it funny that so many people found it inconceivable that they could lose. Whenever I suggested that teams were figuring out tiki taka and that Spain was not evolving it system enough to stay one step a head I was mocked.

And yes, I am still bitter about 2012 damn it!!!

What's worse. The collapse of Spain this year, or France in 2010?

well it's not over so these stats can change but i would think spain's is , being twice champions of europe and holders of the previous cup. ejected in first round with a GD of -6 (france had managed -3 in 2010) with not a single hope in front of goal. i don't think diego costa managed a shot on target. not sure if he's injured or just exhausted but he's likely a one-season wonder that only managed such heights because of Simeone...they'll have done well to cash in on him already over at Atletico.

Well, Anelka called his coach a son of a whore and told him to go fuck himself, so I think that takes the cake.

Great pass. Was a bit worried the first few minutes but hopefully they gain more control now.
