There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I had never heard of FGCU until a friend of mine dated a girl who was going there. Totally forgot about that school till now. Craziness.

I was really hoping for the Golden Gophers to take down Duke. Oh well.

Tubby lost his job today. Hard to believe given that the team wasn't all that bad.

Tubby was not developing players, good players were leaving and doing better elsewhere and fundraising was falling off. It was pretty widely accepted up here that AD Teague (who, IMO, is doing a good job) was going to bring in his own guy sooner or later.

Tubby wasn't cutting it in the Big10 seasons. 46-62 in conference play is a good reason to let someone go. A couple colleges are going to get nice pickups in Howland and Smith.

How long until Shaka Smart heads to Minnesota and how far will VCU fall when that happens?

I'd say UCLA is more likely but the athletic director at Minnesota came from VCU. That could play into it as well.

i'd honestly be surprised if he left. i think he's waiting for one of the big, big time programs to open up (duke, unc). ucla seems like a media clusterfuck and 2.5 million there is less than 1.5 in richmond. his wife also apparently really wants to stay in richmond, and you know what they say..

they're about to break ground here on a new $15 million practice facility too.

    speak of the devil:

Yeah from what I've heard too he loves Richmond, they treat him like a god (rather than expect god-like results at a major school) and you know what, not everyone wants to deal with the bullshit of a big-time school and it is totally understandable. Its why Butler's coach has stayed there.

I wonder what UCLA or MN were going to offer money wise. He must fucking love it there. I'd say once Calipari decides hes had his fill at UK, that's where he will end up. Or North Carolina. Duke has Wojo who is the heir to throne. Indiana will lock up Crean for a long time. Boeheim is getting older so maybe Cuse.

Looks like Northwestern is going to hire Duke's Collins. Good hire there.

IU extended Crean's contract back in November at the beginning of basketball season. He'll be a Hoosier for a long time.

I'll be watching the MSU game at 9am Saturday morning in Shanghai at a sports bar with some other MSU alums. Should be a fun time.

Not only that, he is building VCU into a major power all on his own, the gap between the bluebloods and the mid majors has been narrowing for years, and an environment like VCU, where he has become a major program, might be enough to keep him there forever.

    reportedly 3 - 3.5

look at this way, he's making now making 1.5 (really 2) in a place with low cost of living, the city LOVES him so his job is extremely secure, he can do whatever he wants in the program, there are no expectations because it's still VCU, and he keeps his wife happy.

vs going to a place in the eye of the media where if he doesn't win the tournament in 5 years he's out.

+1. VCU bends over backwards for him. He is by far the most beloved person in the city. I've run into him twice, once with his wife and baby out for a walk and the other time at a grocery store, and both times got the impression he's a genuinely nice guy. I have no doubt that keeping his wife happy is a big reason reason he's staying. Also, Richmond is a cool city. All of my Northern friends who live here now love it.

There was some article a few years back in SI i think at how football and basketball national championships led to an increase of students applying, thus making it more selective to get it in.

If I remember correctly, After MSU won in 2000, the application rate went up like 15-20%. Florida had a similar rise when they won both football and basketball in the same year in 05 or 06.
