Ted Valentine's a joke. The end of game sequences were horrendous: It was as though he wanted the game to tighten up. He let so much go from IU when they were fouling to extend the game. I believe it was Smith Jr. on the sideline where Hulls was hacking him with Valentine watching it all, and OSU had to call a timeout. Then the next possession he got so excited to call a travel after Smith Jr. fell/was getting reached in on.

I don't think I've seen Izzo get a technical from Valentine this year which is a damn miracle given how many State games he's done and how much he follows Izzo into the huddle. Valentine's become a storyline with announcers for every game he referees. It makes me pine for the days of old when Ed Hightower was the most visible referee in the Big10.

Right in front of Valentine on Sunday (no call, no review oddly enough): [IMG]

On another note, we could see a four way tie for the conference title. It'd be nice for Michigan to repay the favor to Ohio State for giving Michigan a share of the title last year in the final regular season game. If State wins their next two, I'd gladly take a backdoor share of the Big10 title.

A couple plays stuck out for me. The first was Payne's nasty fall then grabbing the rebound, calling timeout, and getting a hug from Izzo. The telling play for Appling was when he missed a three in the second half, someone got the offensive rebound, kicked it back out to him and he didn't hesitate to bury it: his confidence is there. Northwestern hopefully doesn't tell us anything we don't already know about this team.

Michigan choked. Couldn't hit free throws to save their ass. Game was a lot like MSU home loss to Indiana.

Big 10 tourney will be good. Aside from MSU winning part of the conference title, it would've been cool to see IU, UM, MSU, and OSU all compete in the B1G Tourney as an unofficial tiebreaker in the conference tourney.

I read that and I was at that game, I was a big Syracuse fan. I remember that block. Pearl Washington, who had the body of a seal, took off up court like a rocket, you literally did not see anyone close to him. Than as he goes up, Berry blocks it. It was crazy. That was a good 'Cuse team. Rony Seikaly in the middle, Howard Triche shooting from outside. Those were the days when the Big East Tournament was tougher than the NCAA tournament. Mutumbo/Mourning/Iverson at G'Town, Seikaly/Coleman/Owens at 'Cuse, crazy good games.

The B1G Tourney will be fun to watch because every one of the top 5 teams is vulnerable to any one of the bottom seven. It'll be interesting to see if one of the bottom teams make it to the championship game.

I'm more excited about the NCAA tourney. Can't wait.

I still have dreams about the 09 Final Four in Detroit. Easily one of the top events I've been to in my life.

    I want redemption against michigan.

Love to see a third game on Sunday. Probably wont get through OSU. MSUs track record in the tourney isn't that great.

I don't think we'll see any of the bottom teams make the final. Minnesota's got the best chance of them, but they haven't been able to string together 3 solid games in a long time. Hopefully if State plays Ohio State Aaron Craft doesn't end up with 20 points. I think Appling will attack him more on the offensive end this time around. Appling's been much more assertive since the final five minutes of the U of M game. State really needs Dawson to show up. He's a monster on the offensive boards, but he hasn't done anything of late.

As much as I dislike Michigan, Indiana is really starting to annoy me with all their fucking flops. Anyone see McGary bump into Zeller running down the court. You're telling me a 7'0 250lb man falls down like a ton of bricks after rubbing shoulders with another player. Give me a fucking break.

I don't really follow any other conference but I feel like the B1G really needs to look at this in the offseason. It's fucking ridiculous. They won't though and we will have years and years of mediocre officiating. Some games will be wars, some will be 6 hour long marathons first team to 30 fouls loses.

That play involved two of my least favorite players in the conference. McGary's screens are borderline cheap shots every time. Crean's most likely running out of any goodwill, outside of Bloomington, that he'd built up from taking over that program in disarray. I used to like him just because he was Izzo's assistant, but this year's shown he's no where near Izzo's integrity (instructing flops in the huddle, yelling at his former assistant).

    Agreed x two.

It's homerism but izzo is awesome. I remember back in 2004 at the Izzone camp out, he ordered 100 pizzas to be delivered to all of us. Granted it was probably on his university credit card that i funded through tuition checks, but......whatever

I think it was on The Journey there was a snippet of Tim Miles, the Nebraska head coach talking about his first big ten win. He said izzo was the first person to call and congratulate him after that game.

Izzone campouts were awful. Freshman year it went from Friday afternoon through Saturday night. Sophomore year they shortened it up to Friday afternoon to Saturday morning. The past two years I've had excused absences from it, although last year was cancelled for cold weather. Izzo went through the line before the Indiana game to shake everyone's hand and thank them for waiting in the cold for the game. The man's so emotionally invested in his players' success: Sunday after he removed Nix is a good example.
