My plan is to purchase nothing new in 2012. Which means I have been very busy this December.

Just joined SF after browsing over 2011. My 2012 goals are as follows:

    1. Purchase new pair of black oxfords. My AE's got destroyed by my puppy last year, so I've been wearing some old clunkers for awhile.
    2. Build my sock drawer back up. Plan on building through Veccil for solids and Howard Yount for patterns.
    3. Purchase my first TaT MTM suit. I currently have three suits from Jos A Bank that I've been using before I started reading on SF. I have a 12" drop (48R to 36W) and can't find jack that can be altered with ease. My Jos A Bank's were suit separates that have worked until now but the quality, as we all know, isn't up to snuff and begining to wear on my nerves.
    4. Hopefully buy another TaT suit once I get my fit perfected.
    5. Re-Build my tie selection. I've got some diverse options, but I'm really needing some more stylish upgrades.
    6. Continue to add a new shirt or two each month from Modern Tailor. I've been impressed thus far, currently have three on order.
    7. Add two more watches to my collection, both with leather bands, one black one brown.
    8. Replace my belts.

That's it for now. All my stuff centers around the workplace really; I'm a commercial banker and am always making calls on customers so looking fantastic is the best way to start off on the right foot. Just need to keep building that wardrobe!

Let me save you a few steps. Don't buy a TaT suit.

Nice goals, jarth. A couple of suggestions: Carmina black oxfords on the Simpson last from Armoury. Sam Hober ties. Socks from DandyStore and ASuitableWardrobe.

What would you suggest for MTM then? I don't have a bespoke option in town that I can find and I like what I've seen in the TaT thread.

    • Oct - Really strated learning about style. Purchased nice looking pieces but wasn't great at putting them together ot layering.
    • Started getting everything tailored - Surprise surprise, it made a huge difference.
    • Learned sportcoats can be worn almost anywhere, anytime.
    • Learned that mixing texture is just as important as mixing color.
    • Feeling confident about what I wear.
    • Learned about socks.
    • Built a great collection of socks and pocket squares.
    • Learned crappy DSW shoes might look ok but the don't for long. (Too bad I picked up 3 pair in October and could have spent the money on AE instead)
    • Learned what AE is :)

    2012

    • Buy 2 pair of real shoes.
    • Learn more about what makes quality clothing and its construction.
    • Save money to buy either a Hickey Freeman or a MTM from asia.

Why do you say that and what else would you recomend? I liked what I saw in that thread, but I'm open for opinion. With my 12" drop I have to go MTM/Bespoke pretty much or separates and separates typically have bland fabrics IMO. Where I live, I don't have a bespoke option either so it's MTM most likely for me.

+1, especially since you are so broad. From what I've seen, TaT works perfectly on slim guys that are average height. You don't seem to fit that criteria. Plus, those ultra-slim lapels are really going out of style.

    2011:
-Dropped 25 pounds in fat so updated wardrobe quite a bit
-Starting spending more on real shoes and wearing less boat shoes
-Stopped wearing flip flops (California tradition)
-Donated / sold almost everything that did not fit properly
-Learned more about proper care of clothing shoes (no longer using the dryer except for boxers and undershirts)

    2012:
-Lose another 25 pounds after adding 15 pounds of muscle
    -Get a pair of Cordovan
-Buy only what I need, not what I want. Stop buying final sale items. Limit to 12 items total for the whole year of 2012.
    -Get a job
    -Volunteer more

Another reflection is never to tell your tailor to "take their time".

    Or Beaman...

Frank is a saint though. I don't know how he puts up with a lot of the people I have seen come in and bark stuff at him. I would have strangled half the people if I were him.
