2007 S-Class: what do you think of the design?

    I prefer the old design. I don't like the bulges over the tires and I prefer the headlights on the previous generation. Looking at the picture provided, I hate that colour and those rims. I did see a pic of the 2007 AMG (S65 I believe) and it looked a lot better than the stock body.

    BTW, I love the A8 and the new Lexus LS looks pretty good as well.

    Not bad but luxo-barges are something I was never attracted to. Interior is nice though.

    In person the car is incredible, gorgeous and blows every flagship luxury sedan out of the water. It's huge and obviously not for everyone but Mercedes has just set the benchmark (once again) in the large luxury sedan market.

    My real beef with the car is the interior:

    1) No shift knob, it's a steering wheel mounted stalk
    2) No real gauges / dials, instead it's a computer screen, BUT the clock in the center consol is analogue!
    3) The massive wraparound which covers the widescreen sat nav / on-board computer display, I understand its there to block out the sun, but it looks ugly, and frankly blocks part of your vision of the road
    4) It has an actual 10-digit phone dialer, but it's located at the end of the armrest, where it's hard to look at while driving...instead of being located somewhere closer to the drivers field of vision
    5) Steering wheel is ugly; seriously, I've seen better designs in Korean cars...
    6) Since it has no shift knob, the center consol / in front of the armrest stowage cubbies make it look like a minivan, not a $100K flagship car

    Yes, it is massive. Not Maybach massive, but close. Of, course nothing is RR Phantom massive...

    The last gen was just about perfect, for what it was. This.. is too striking. The lines totally not what I expect in an S-class. The interior is fine, but i've never loved the interior of any merc.

    Love the exterior. The interior is ugly.

    The 600 Pullman posted by LabelKing is a more beautiful and elegant car.

    It needs a shift nob, steering column should only be for trucks and minivans.

    And it needs wood! I miss the days of big wood dashes. Jag and Bentley still do them. Audi sort of.

    The '60s era Mercedes all seemed to have that sterring column.

    They are just copying their biggest competitor in Europe (and the Middle East, and Asia) BMW.

    The front is nice, but can at times look like a big Ford Mondeo (I don't know the US name)
    The rear is a take on the Maybach, and frankly not bad.
    MB have gone miles in terms of alloy wheel design with this model.
    I actually like some of the points that have been flagged up about the interior. For example, the analogue clock with digital display is nice, but the anologue clock should be something more substantial, like the Breitling clock in the Continental GT. MB have ties with IWC, so could have easily been a nice IWC clock there.
    Also, the phone numbers; who actually needs to look at them when they dial?
