Greetings all,

I need two pairs of shoes for working at a NYC law firm. Dress code is business casual. I'm having a hard time deciding what's the best call. I already have a pair of black cap toe oxfords, so that should cover the few occasions I might need to wear a suit.

Right now I have a pair of (unworn) Allen Edmonds Oxblood Strands (https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoes/mens-shoes/oxford-derby-shoes/strand-cap-toe-oxford/SF1635.html), but am on the fence about keeping them (regardless will need to exchange because they have numerous defects).

The options I was leaning toward are (these are just representative photos):

1) Brown Cap toe oxford

2) Brown punchcap or adelaide

3) Brown full brogue/longwing

4) Brown longwing blucher

Thank you!

I would opt for a brown punch toe or adelaide. If business casual means no jacket for you, then something with open lacing or a wingtip could work also, but I like being able to dress my shoes up when I need to and I think the first 2 styles do that better.

Dunno, I think first two are too similar to each other and to your black captoes in formality. Would go for brown punch toe/Adelaide and LWB for a wider range.

Thanks for the responses. I tend to agree the plain cap toe is perhaps unnecessarily formal, though I do like the look of that particular C&J shoe. I will wear a jacket perhaps occasionally (lunches etc.) but most of the time the dress code is your standard button down + slacks.
