I have a navy pinstripe Brooks Brothers two button jacket with a center vent that needs to be taken in where I have lost some weight. I'm going to take it to a tailor in Baltimore rather than the Brooks Brothers store, because I have been less than pleased with their work. Is it possible for them to close the center vent and create side vents? Also, would it be possible to turn it into a three button jacket? Adding the extra button and button hole seems to have been discussed here, but what have been your results?

Thanks, hopkins_student.

Cannot create side vents. The only thing that can be done is to close the center vent.

I understand adding the 3rd button may be possible, but you will probably need to adjust the collar as well.

I just picked up a brioni that I had converted from a two button to a three. This is the sixth time this tailor in Boulder colorado has performed this conversion and it's impossible to tell that they were ever two-button.Obviously, you have to have an experienced tailor, but it can be done.I concur that you can only have a center vent closed and not create side vents.I encourge you to pursue the buttton alteration-it's well worth it and only cost me 15$...Hope this helps.

Just curious...would it be possible to create a center vent on a ventless jacket?

From what I understand, it is not possible. You cannot add vents, only take them away.

Calm down man. He posted that eleven years ago. It might take him more than a minute to know you revived an eleven year old post.

LOL

Just to say that I've had a ventless jacket converted to dual vents. It can be done, you need sufficient material ie jacket is too big for you.

Hardly a revelation - that was 'discovered' here many years ago. Just let an old thread rest in peace
