We buy 1-2 XS in every style and they are always the last to move, as opposed to XL which is far and away our second best selling size after L. Further, XS is the most frequently returned size by a long shot.

Do people return XS because it ends up being too small and they should've sized up? Or that even XS is too big? Just curious.

It’s just a guess, but I’d say people try squeezing into an XS because that was the only size left.

I returned a shirt recently because I just didn’t like the fabric as much in person. I returned something from the first drop because there were still free returns and I liked the single pleat better than the self belted pants. The self belted one was also still really big.

Nearly all xs returns come with “it didn’t fit me how I liked” as the reason for return. This comment almost never comes from people returning M - XL. We get almost no M-XL back in general (with the exception of the seersucker field shirt which ran a size smaller than it was supposed to).

I think the buy/sell forum here has a lot to do with that. I’ve been able to trade (either directly or indirectly) every size that didn’t work for something that did.

There seems to be a great group on this forum who gives other members first shot rather than returning.

I also notice that XS stuff sticks around there a lot longer than everything else

I didn't get the Cam shirt because I got the vest and thought 2 things with the same corduroy pattern would be overkill but now I'm regretting it. I really wanted the Claremont quilted overshirt from last year but that never made it online in my size. :(

if there was ever an item I would pay double to get rereleased, it’s that shirt.

We certainly appreciate that, but the stuff that does come back in those sizes usually heads right back out. Not so at all for XS and S.
