I'd buy a cheap house, keep my bills low and save as much as I can in ND for 5 -6 years then move back to the East Coast.

Take the money, enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, and save the surplus. Then, once you retire, use all that extra money to buy a place somewhere exotic.
