$100 to take in jacket sides?

I have gotten 2 different quotes in the $95-$100 range to take in the sides of one my suit jackets. One at a reputable professional tailor on this board and another at a tailor that works in the drycleaners in my town. Based on other posts I have seen, this seems high. It definitely does not include other alterations as they have given me separate prices for those.

This is the NYC area, so I would expect to pay some premium. I'm pretty sure its a standard thing - the jacket is double vented, but $100 sounds high versus the $40-$60 I have seen others on this board quote. Any thoughts?

I've been charged $75 for the procedure. It's pretty expensive to have it taken in.

taking in from the sides only cost me 35-40
taking in the back and sides(need to cut fabric to bottom of shoulders) set me back 60

I'm sure they asked about the vent situation. Jackets with side vents are much more of a pain ********** to take in (or let out, for that matter), and tailors will charge more for that reason.

Where can I go to get a decent job done for cheaper? This price was from Bhambi's.

My tailor charges $20 for taking in the sides. $20 for shortening sleeves.

in australia i paid 150 to get the sides taken in and functional cuffs added to a coat

my tailor charges depending on if there is pick stitching on the vents.

Taking in the sides on a double vented jacket involves re-cutting the vents (that is, unless you want them to billow out) and if they are hand-stitched, they need to be re-hand stitched.

If she/He does nice work, its worth the $100.

My tailor charges $75-$125

Bhambi's does good work. They are expensive and annoying, but there is a reason that Brioni and Borrelli send their customers to them. Wilfred's is also good, but will only be a bit cheaper.

I just brought some suits to Orchard Street Tailors. They will be much less than what you were quoted but I can't speak to their quality until I pick up my suits.
