100% Cotton Trech Coat VS 100% Wool Overcoat ?

If you lived in the U.K or a location with similar weather patterns and needed to use one daily for business/casual events which of the two would you choose if you could only have one and why?

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and input.

Well, at least where I live, you better have a few good wool winter coats.

If it does not get that cold where you are, you can probably get away with a cotton trench coat with a removeable wool liner. The trench is great for spring and fall showers.

I'd go for a Crombie Wool Overcoat. Not fussed on Trench Coats.

In London, my 100% cotton trench was good for most days even in winter

Yeah, all of the rain in London. I think a waterproof trench it the way to go.

+1 on the above. Also, living in / around London (or NY, etc), you should have a heavy 100% wool overcoat as well for those clear, but brisk cold days.

A tan or stone colored waterproof trench and a black or dark blue wool overcoat would be ideal.

Is the Trench Coat far superior at repelling heavy rains than a good quality wool over coat?

Noob question I know.

Just go for a trench with a button in lining.

It does get pretty cold in London... I wear a half fur, half wool coat for a least a couple of months
If you have a lot of three piece suits, though, a cotton trench will get you through those coldest months happily; and so I would say it's a more important wardrobe staple for 80% of the year.
Any reason why you can't just buy both? If money's the problem just get cheaper versions of both, or splurge on the trench and buy a cheap wool coat from like REISS.
