Ms. thinksimple and I had booked a trip to Tokyo & Fukushima back around Christmas to visit some friends in Japan. Unfortunately, mother nature doesn't always cooperate, and we decided to cancel the trip yesterday (friends are all okay, we just decided it wasn't the best time to go, for several reasons related to the earthquake). We managed to get a refund for our tickets, and we will be claiming the cancellation fees through our trip cancellation insurance. Since we both got the time off, we decided to still go somewhere, but we're stuck between two (very different) destinations: Oahu or New York City. Without boring everyone with all the background info and caveats, NYC will be about half the price because we can either take the bus or use Air Miles, but the weather will be nicer in HI (not to mention air+4*hotel will be less than $1400 flying out of YYZ, which isn't bad). Since this is so last second, we haven't planned for either, though neither would need much planning (HI is so small, and I spent 4 days in NYC for a Rangers game last year). Based on your subjective experience, which would offer the best experience/most to do over the course of one week (we'd be leaving this Thursday)? Thanks in advance! UPDATE: Booked to HI Thursday, I'll be going to NYC in May for a Yankees game with the guys instead. Thanks for all the input!
