I was not a fan of the Bangled 7, but I like this (though it's far from a total departure from the Bangle era design). Great lines overall.

I'm not sure I like it. It looks watered-down. I wasn't a huge fan of the 7-series before but at least it was kind of daring, overdone lights and all. This just looks meh to me. But I've never wanted a 7-series anyways.

I don't mind it. Not a terribly bad looking car.

It's a pretty bland car. Bangle, for all his faults, at least was controversial. I'll take a 2001 740i Sport Package and call it a day. What a great design what was.

+1.

The last generation before bangle of the 3, 5, and 7 series was maybe the finest luxury lineup I've ever seen. All universally admired vehicles both in looks and performance.

Great vehicle. My dream car from that "era" is probably the S8 in black. What a sleeper.

Exterior styling is boring, but still a huge improvement over the Bangle version.

Not crazy about the engine though. If I were to drop this kind of coin I'd want a V-12. I don't care how much power and torque the V8 makes, it still won't have the sound or feel of a V-12.

Also, thank god they're finally getting rid of the archaic strut suspension.

+1. The E38 still looks good to this day. I'd take the E38 body & styling with the current technoloy update over the 09 7.

Just a note, how did this end up in E&C?

Front could have been much better, yes - e38 still looks great and should have had more influence on this design.

One of BMW's stated reasons why they moved so far away from the E38 and its contemporaneous lineup in terms of styling was to move away from the 3 lengths of sausage image: the only difference between a 3, 5, and 7 was size, otherwise they looked pretty similar. They seem to be moving back there again.

Also, the Bangle era began well before the E65, and includes the E46. It was only with the E65 that they consciously changed the whole lineup. Bangle was head of BMW design from 1992.
