Got through weekend 1 unscathed. Being a hermit helps.

Whoever said de-subscribe from mailing lists was right. I cracked and bought this Liberty x YMC flower hat I saw thanks to a Gargyle mailing.

I've been trying to buy a baseball cap forever and rationalized it by saying a) sweet print bro and b) half the price of the Ervell hat I've been sweating. My fear of it selling out tipped me over the edge. FORGIVE ME. If it's not right IRL, I will return it.

On the plus side I'm selling a Ervell sweater (since I bought it in 3 colorways). So that's a step in the right direction, amirite? :thumbs-up:

    How much?

If it's reasonable, I expect a matched donation to charity.

    Otherwise, it's probation and punishment.

    Edit:

    50 pounds?

Option 1: You can make a donation of half that amount

Option 2: You owe me 300 push ups over the course of the week. I expect check ins every 50. I will match you push up for push up by way of encouragement.

If it only takes push-ups to make up for purchases, I'll never make it.

As part of my back-to-school planning, I've been looking at bags, and I'm considering buying one when No Purchase Club ends. For the past few years at work, I've rotated a tan Filson 256 and a brown Tumi Alpha leather briefcase ($2 thrift store find).

The Tumi is nice functionally but not so attractive, and it definitely looks more at home in an office than at school. I won't be taking it with me.

That leaves the Filson, which perhaps would work fine, but I'm leaning toward getting a backpack instead. My thinking is (1) I don't like wearing the Filson with a strap messenger bag–style (for comfort and aesthetic reasons) and (2) it's a little much to carry a briefcase in school, right?

So I'm looking at backpacks. Here are a few I kind of like, but I know little about backpacks. Feedback is appreciated—should I stick what I already have, buy one of these, or buy something else I haven't considered?

I'd avoid the Filson. Seems like it would be a hassle to unbuckle. The blue Kelty seems nice and reasonably priced. And the need is probably there; carrying a briefcase around in school is going to get tiring.

Good point about the Filson buckles. It probably stands out a little more than I'd want, too.

Let me know how many you've done of each at the end of the day and I'll match you.

You're on probation unless you make a donation. Another slip up and you're out. [IMG]

    Coming clean.
I purchased. I got a 40% email for LE. I never buy from LE. But they have this hat. Perfect driving hat. Harris tweed, gray with brown and blue undertones. 30 bucks, free shipping. I purchased it, thinking to myself that I'd happy have paid 60 dollars for that hat. I then went and made my 30 dollar donation to the Wikipidia Foundation. I am still in good standing. And that is how you ensure you've not made a stupid purchase.

    ....sigh....it does mean I won't get the prize at the end :{
