Any Buster Keaton fans here?

Off topic but I was watching Battling Butler from 1926 and Buster is out in the wilderness and in one scene he was wearing a suit with a very interesting fabric that in my limited range, I've never seen before. I thought it was really different. Sort of alternating blocks of rotated and plumped/relief fabric.

I wonder what you guys thought of the fabric and what is it called, if possible to guess. And would you think that fabric would be popular in this day. Thanks.

Realized no one got back to you on this. To my untrained eye he's wearing a wool Prince of Wales / glen plaid check. I think it could make for a lovely sportcoat.

I did get a PM.

The fabric looked like it was not flat across but that you could feel the alternative fabric boxes raised and recessed. Thought it was unusual and cool. And Keaton was wearing it in what seemed to be a warm environment.

It looks like what might be called a basketweave. I can't say that I've seen one in fabric books, but I also haven't been looking. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the usual mills/fabric purveyors offers one or two, though.

That Lovat (we have it here) is a similar pattern, but a smaller scale than those Buster Keaton photos.

I can't say that I've ever seen the BK pattern in that scale in any of our men's fabric books - maybe something that could be found in women's or coating collections. Or upholstery, drapes, etc...

It does seem like a very vintage-y weave (particularly at that scale) that mills might be reticent to run. I'm impressed with how quickly @lordsuperb came up with that one though!

Those Lovat tweeds are pretty nice.

Went and ordered the tweedy gradient Schneider sweater in size 6 after a few weeks of indecision.

Now to spend a few more weeks over those blurhms sweatshirts and tees. I want all of the brown ones...
