A better question to the argument would be: "How do you want your shoes to look?" There isn't a right or wrong way to care for your shoes, since it's all preference based and they're your shoes at the end of the day.
If you want your Thuya's to look new and pristine for as long as possible, then throw some shoe trees in them. If you want them to be rugged and age like wine, forgo the matter.
