Yep. Now I am hearing that the 1880s are Corrected Grain too, I really don't want CG as I have a pair of CG shoes and they got cracked and creased after two wearings. As well, they are impossible to polish.

I don't think your Badminton are cg. Probably not the finest calfskin out there, but not cg either. I used to own an 1880 semi brogue on their 026 last. Leather on that one was pretty stiff, but still wasn't cg.

My Strands are calfskin, not cg. They take a great shine and actually have shown less creasing than several other shoes I own. That said, I believe all of the 1880 range is calfskin, but you'll have to read the description to make sure.

Seeing as Northampton's only half an hour on the train (though train travel is unpleasant and expensive these days due to privatization, "but at least you can get a cappucino") I might just take up your advice.
