I have a company sales meeting (biotech/pharma) next month so this came up recently. Email went out a month ago that said business casual. Anyone under 35 thought that meant “nice” jeans, a polo or collared shirt and sneakers. Guys over 50 would wear their old suits with no tie. “Fashionable” guys over 50 wore an actual sport coat (though 2 sizes too large).
I’m a bit of a hold out. Over the years I went from sport coat and trousers (no tie) to casual SC and chinos to chore coat or sweater and chinos. I still get odd looks and comments like, “Why are you dressed up?”
The idea of layers is lost on most of my colleagues.
Yes, I think the age thing plays a huge factor

Aren't you also on the verge of retirement? I will say the tech "casual" dress is very broad and something I've never seen in my career (since I don't work in tech)

Yes, I announced my retirement and am currently working through a multi-month notice period. But I don't feel like that has changed my perspective on how I dress for work. Even though I'm retiring, I'd still never wear jeans or a tshirt to the office.

Granted, I'm not in tech and recognize that's a totally different ballgame.

I guess what I was implying and I outright stated in a later post, was that age plays a big role in how people dress for work even when dress codes at the office change.

Office attire today. GRP sweater, Rota herringbone trousers (custom thanks to Greg!), Vass, and the (hidden) star of the show today Merola peccary belt.

I have been to the office once in the last 2 years. We are allegedly moving to some type of hybrid model as soon as we are done with Delta^H^H^H^H Omicron^H^H^H^H BA.2

I work in tech, so I can wear whatever I want.

When I was going to the office pre-pandemic, woven shirts (none suitable for a tie) and/or knitwear with casual trousers or denim. I rotated a couple of pairs of nice chukkas on a slim last (one suede, one smooth leather) which I kept at my desk because I rode my bike to work with cycling shoes.

Now I wear one of ten hoodies, occasionally mixing in a Sage de Cret linen henley from NMWA or other knitwear, almost always with sweats or PJ bottoms. I’ve gone in for two meetings in the past two years, and I wore the henley for one and a band collar button-up shirt for the other, both with denim and the suede chukkas.

EDIT: I work for a “tech startup” (whatever the f*ck that means these days) in San Francisco.

I'm 45, though, not 65.

True enough. But I will say, I've interviewed 20+ people in their 20s over the past 6 months and every one of the men have worn a suit and tie, even for zoom interviews.
I feel like it'd be the same for me. Seems that it may just be more specific to the tech industry

What’s this little loop for on the back of the belted document chinos?

The one holding the button tab? I think it's just that, to hold it and not have it flap around. These pants have suspender buttons for classic buttoned braces so there are buttons in the front and a tab that flips up with the two buttons for the back strap of the suspenders

Thanks! But yes this was a 44, but I actually took a 40 in the KS and 38 in the Camoshita raglan.
