I have a half dozen pair of pants that I bought last year (the Mavi "Zach" Straight Legs in 97% cotton/3% elastane); they fit great when I bought them, but I've lost 50 pounds since then, and now they're way too big (they're 38s, but my waist is now 32", so they're all like 6" too big).
I've recently acquired a used Canali DB suit, condition is very good, but it's one size bigger: the suit is eur 50 (US 40) while I usually wear eur 48 (US 38).
The jackets fits right in the shoulders and the chest area. The problem is the excess fabric in the back. I'm slim, 70 kg (155 lbs) for...
Happy holidays everyone,
Tried on this Washington suit jacket and noticed 2 fit issues besides sleeve length:
1. Lapels don't lay flat on chest
2. Excess fabric in back
In your opinion, what do you guys think is causing the lapels to bow/not lay flat? Also, is this fixable via alterations...
Hello all, thought to tap on the collective sartorial intelligence of the SF community. (long-time member, first time poster. Learnt a lot from this forum.)
Recently acquired a fully canvassed tuxedo 'Teatro' from Benjamin Sartorial - and extremely happy with the purchase. As with all OTR...
So I'm looking for an explanation on what causes the pulling effect on the upper arms of dress shirts and suit jackets. I have a few tailored shirts that has this happening, but the tailor says it's normal and if he changes anything it's gonna be baggy and not look good.
However, I'm wondering...
Hey, I know this question is asked often and read some post already but, I'm still confused on how should the length of the sleeve be. I've heard from retail shops where by they said the proper length should be "half-knuckle", I assume what the staff meant was half the palm? Also, from online...
I got a Eton shirt from a recent sale on Gilt. The shirt is contemporary fit (slim) with back darts, I can see the extra material on the inside of the shirt. It's a bit too tight around the belly area (second to last button) can I take out the darts/would that help?
Hi everyone, so I recently purchased a Gucci blazer online for 50$, which I thought was a great price. The issue is that it's a 42R when I usually wear around a 40R. The shoulders fit very well and the sleeve length is fine but could maybe be shortened half an inch or so in order to achieve a...
I have some jackets that fit pretty well, aside from the arms being way too tight. Can a tailor "let out" the arms (in a width sense, not a length sense)? Preferably, all the way up to the shoulder? Let me know if that didn't make sense. Thanks for any thoughts.
Just bought a pair of khakis from GAP (Tailored Straight Leg) and was wondering if these khakis were designed like many others (made to be able to have tailors let them out a few inches if needed.) Yes I can get the right waist size but the thigh/leg taper would not be the same. I just need a...
So like most men here, I would say the biggest problem I have with buying off the rack dress shirts, is that the sleeve length is usually a little too long for me. Usually there is too much fabric on the sleeve therefore bunching up. Even though I have been measured a bunch of times, and I've...
If there is a suit with sleeves already with working buttonholes, would it be possible anyway to alter/shorten the sleeve?
without making the buttons look too close to the edge?
This is one aspect against having rtw suits with working buttonhole sleeves.
I have a chalk mark on a wool suit coat I thought about shortening. I ended deciding to wait on the work. In the meantime, how can I safely remove the chalk line from the wool without damaging it? A quick brush off didn't do the trick.
Thanks in advance.
