I know and socialise with lots of old skinheads, and none of them, not a single one dresses in the HC or biker style. ALL of them to a man dress likes trads. I've never met a trad skinhead who dresses HC in biker jackets & combats & shaved head. I have met people like that of course at gigs and festivals but they aren't and never have been skinheads, most of them are ex-punks or bikers and a large proportion are white supremecists and other variations of bonehead.

On our early morning Squadron runs it was boots, OGs and a green vest. T-shirts were not issued items back then, and there was none of this modern stuff of t-shirt under DPM field jacket or smock, it was a green hairy mary or a khaki tropical. Needless to say we wore khaki tropicals whenever we could get away with it.

well, Stefan is referring to AMERICAN "skinheads" who dress in the hardcore punk style (wearing sport jerseys etc) which is fine if that's how you wanna dress, but they INSIST on still being skinheads which is where actual skinheads that still dress smart would disagree with. He's quite right, in respect to talking about USA. Maybe still skinhead at heart, but no longer in appearance.

Fair enough, apologies if the quote made it seem like I was targeting you. Now let's all get back on track - less pop stars, more clothes...

roy, i believe he's talking about the 'old-er' american skins who still claim to be skins but look like 'gangstas'. and comparing that to this 'lars' fella since he went from punk to skin at the age of 40 (i guess around there). i personally think lars as a skin is fine, sure he might be doing it for the attention to his new oi band, but only time will tell if he changes into something else..who knows..

and as for the slade pic, i guess it shows runners on the original skins (even if slade did it as a quick stint).

Thank-you sivanpunk for putting that right. This Thread is about Traditional Skinheads and even though we were known as aggressive little b*st*rds,we like to think we have moved on.Bloody hell I now let Bikers walk the Streets unharmed!!:) Joking aside can we not keep the Subject on track-instead going off into who was Punk then Skinhead or whatever. If People are dressing more to the Skinhead Style so be it-for whatever reason. But one thing I ask is do not put Slade in the same Catagory as us Originals-that is an insult!!!!:D

Rant over.

I agree Colin they was never skinheads, and none of the originals looked as them as such, no one in London had heard of them until late 71, ?

I find a lot of present day skinheads seem to associate them with the original skinheads, I have even seen skinheads at present day doos wearing Ruperts the type that Noddy Holder wore.... Not
the Ruperts that was popular in London for about the Summer of 70.

Their still seems to be a confusion regarding Ruperts, ??

Regarding the ruperts we wore, we have spoken about them before, and we have described them, I wonder if Bunty can dig out a photo of a pair, :D
