I think so too, just buying used tends to be a mixed experience. BTW tricky's Aldens is what I'm looking at and I've heard good things about him.

EDIT: Man, $835? Prices just keep going up...

Context is even higher priced on Viberg's too..seems part of their model.

I don't typically like to talk about vendors, but I do not understand the pricing point. Alden Madison offers essentially the EXACT same model for $770 and Alden SF offers it on the Trubalance for $762. Thats $65 for a pull tab of which half the people I know would cut off.

Frequently, special sizes can be ordered via an "Add to Run" for stock makeups or included on the run for the special makeup if it is a pre-order. One other thing to consider, although they may have the last, they may not always have the pattern pieces for the size, so that is another factor to consider. The only way to truly find out is to call the Alden factory.

According to their sizing charts, they have:

D 6 - 13
E 6 - 13

This might help a little. I typically wear 14D in Allen Edmonds and Cole Haan. In Alden I wear a 13D on Trubalance and Barrie. I bump to to 13E on Aberdeen and Grant lasts. I own several pairs of Alden's in 14D and they are too big but work. Your best bet to find big foot sizes is TSM-The Shoe Mart, Alden on Madison, Alden of DC, or Alden SF. The Shoe Mart is the only Alden dealer who stocks size 14 in a few options, they also carry some in 13.5.

Your best bet is to try on in person. If you order on line be advised more places will not take them back if the leather has been creased.

I Recently procured two pair of stock Alden cap-toes (style# 2160 and 972). Given that my place of work is on the casual side, I took them to my cobbler to customize and "dress them down." I had him strip the black edges for a more neutral edge, apply exposed brass eyelets, and apply a rubber half sole. Here are some pics:
