'Posting Up' at the Club / Bar - Let's Discuss

One question I get asked frequently is "Sly, how do you post up at the club/bar?" The answer is simple - just find a spot that's near foot traffic, but not directly in the path of it. You don't want to come 'out of stance' in order to dodge a passerby. In fact, you want to remain stationary, if possible, only moving to adjust your clothes, sip your drink, gently bob your head to the music, or call out women from afar. Another strategy calls for complete stillness, something I call 'the 32 Degrees.' When you enter the venue with your cohorts, you will scan the crowd and analyze the layout - possibly determining that the situation calls for an immobile stance, thus saying something like "I'm fin to go 32 degrees in here" (refer to the next installment for this advanced technique). Since you're going to be near the action, make sure the people around you don't create too much clutter, leaving you lost in the mix. You want to create separation, and slight elevation when possible. Let's start with an example, then continue:

As you can see in this photo, I'm posted up near a lamp. This is a crude example but it illustrates the use of an object to draw attention to yourself (it also doesn't hurt that I've developed a nice tan). If you're posted against an empty wall, there's only one thing for your potential conquest to notice -- you. If you post up near a flashy object, women might notice the lamp and then suddenly see you 'in the cut' and comment to her friends "dang, check out that guy posted up over there."

I recommend that beginners post up in small groups, allowing them to lean on one another for both mental and physical support. A solo post up requires supreme confidence and the ability to stand for long periods of time (I once posted up for 7 hours at the Bacchanal Buffet before being escorted out by security).

Gear. Gear is your friend. I recommend compression socks and custom orthotics. The most advanced players will have both. This is scratching the surface, though. My mentor, Jimmy 'John Boy' Sutton used to carry a stud finder and peg so he could create elevation for himself against almost any wall.

Hello,

I have just began to practice posting up. I've been starting in small and informal venues. So far I've had my best luck in the chucky cheese ball pit. I think I'm ready to move up. Where should I go next?

Hi,

I would appreciate more pictorial instruction. Other topics appreciated also.

Hi,

Because of the nature of this topic, I decided that a brief video tutorial would be most appropriate. Now that we know what posting up is, it's time to learn how to implement it. Before you post up, you need to get to your spot, and sometimes this is easier said than done. How you make your approach is crucial. As you can see in the video, the first thing I do is give an appropriate greeting to my chums that might be in the general area. This could be the barkeep, a waiter, or a complete stranger that you're using as a dud. Acknowledging other patrons will let nearby women know that you are well connected, well known, and frequent this particular establishment. A general compliment is preferred when addressing your peers, something like "there's Jim, he's got the hand to play." Be careful not to make any inappropriate advances, lest you catch a bunch of fives.

The Scoop and The Chirp - what are they? Here I use them in combination with one another as an audible and visual signal that a gentleman of importance is in the immediate area. The depth of the scoop is largely dependent upon your comfort level, expertise in performing it, and ability to transition. A deeper scoop, while preferred, makes for a more difficult transition into your stance. The chirp is a bark of sorts that precedes the scoop by no more than half a second or so. I hope you have found this information helpful.

How do I know if my posting up is successful? What reaction should I look for from females in the area? When does a gentleman come out of his post and advance upon an interested woman?

I want to thank you for your educational efforts to date; I feel far more confident in public situations thanks to them. This "bark" in the chirp...are you being metaphorical or literal? If literal is this bark like a domestic dog's or more like an alpha wolf?

Never. The true expert has beautiful women approach him.
