Z Zegna Question

I was recently at Saks Fifth Avenue and I saw this beautiful Z Zegna sports jacket, however upon further inspection, I noticed that it was made in Mexico and not in Italy, I was just curious if craftmanship is compromised when made in Mexico rather than Italy? And is it common that Zegna outsources some of there production elsewhere? It was $795 and I just want to make sure I'm getting a quality product before I buy it.

Appreciate it. Thanks!

Most of the suits and sports coats from Z Zegna are Made in Mexico.

It is common for Zegna to have products outside of italy. I have seen suits made in Spain, Italy and Switzerland, but I the quality doesn't vary at all between the three factories.

As far as the quality of Z Zegna... It is pretty average and would be on par with most department store suits are Hugo Boss. Z Zegna is fused where as other Zegna lines are canvas construction and non fused (albeit machine made and stitched). Zegna Couture line features handwork.

I would think for that price I would skip the purchase. But it is your call. I have one Z Zegna jacket which is also made in Mexico and is a Cashgora jacket. At the time I was looking for a cashmere jacket and there were limited options available so I made the purchase but I did pay too much for t. Z Zegna has a slimmer silouette than standard Zegna, and is more comparable to fashion forward or designer labels.

Z Zegna are very good quality for fused jackets, which is a contradiction for most on this board. You could spend more on lesser quality stuff with a fancier name, and you could definitely/easily spend less . . .

Could not disagree more. Unfortunately purchased a Z Zegna on Bluefly a few years ago. Lapels bubbled with one dry cleaning. Fabric is garbage. About the same quality as Jos A Banks regular line, and I may be doing a disservice to Banks. I only wear it on rainy days now. I would not pay more than $200 if I could do it again.

Divide by 3
That is the true value.

Divide by 2 if you love it.

I have one Z Zegna item, a dark brown cotton sports jacket, which I got for about $160. For that price, I quite like it, but I don't think it would have been worth the retail of $595.

Nevertheless, one could do worse even at that retail price. Z Zegna is designed for a younger audience and has quite a different fit and cut than regular Zegna, as well. It's cut much more slimmly than my regular Zegna items and goes great with jeans and casual shoes. So, though it isn't as nice as the higher-lined items, for a skinny younger guy looking for something occasionally to wear out in the evening, I'd rather have a Z Zegna for $500 than an $800 Zegna that makes me look like my dad.

Thus, it all goes back to how you look in it. But, for an everyday suit or one that will be worn often, I agree with others that Z Zegna probably isn't the way to go.

You are not getting a quality product. Avoid.

Pros:
Great cut, if you are in shape, athletic or skinny.
Good at deep discount and for fun, going out 'party' clothing.
Many items are stylish and again, great for clubbing, lounges.

Cons:
Poor construction
Average Materials

Only but at 1/3 of retail or less and for items you don't care get some wine or beer spill. I rarely wear Attolini to a bar/club and this is where Z Zegna may fit the bill at discount. I like some of their velvet sportcoats.
