Thank you. How is Bordeaux? More reddish or brownish? If anyone have seen the Vintage Rioja that G&G uses, how does Vass' Bordeaux compare to it?

this is beyond me, sorry. but I have heard that the cordo bordeaux and the calf are different with the cordo more darker...

For the fun of it I'm going to guess - looks cordo to me, just because of the different shades/pigmentation. To me it could be some sort of polish/patina magic which is hard for me to decipher.

Please remember - I could be totally off!

Not exactly your question because I don't own (or have seen) Vass bordeaux cordovan but maybe this image I posted a few weeks ago might help a bit. The Vass at 3 (scothgrain) ,5 and 10 o clock are all Bordeaux, the vass at 9 o clock is 6125 dark cognag which is basically another burgundy and that's why I don't particularly like it that much (the color), the Alden #8 shell at 1 o clock and the Allen Edmonds merlot at 7 are darker than burgundy and are closer to Vass oxblood which is a darker red almost black and also closer to G&G rioja you mentioned.

FWIW my favorite Vass color is antic cognac (not pictured), is a beautiful middle brown, I dont have photos available now but you can find some good ones on this thread.

It's great that folks have their enthusiasms, but the piling on that goes on in this thread when anyone suggests that they've had a less than ideal experience with Vass is almost comical. One shouldn't need to be a podiatrist or cobbler to order a pair of shoes with a reasonable expectation that they'll fit. Especially if he already has a pair in the same size and last.

Wow, great picture and thank you for your input. Seems like Vass have many reddish colours. I love G&Gs Vintage Rioja because it's not all to reddish, it's like a subtle red colour. Seems like Vass' Bordeaux and Oxblood is to red, the latter being the one closest to G&Gs version (Vintage Rioja). Didn't know that the 6125 Cognac was that red (9 o'clock shoe), that's quiet reddish I may say. I guess one would have to see the colours in person to decide or stick to the conservative colours of black, brown and mid-brown (antique cognac).

6125 dark cognac looks very different depending on the light. In some light it's very red, in others, not.

The shell look very rough.
Some of me Vass have very nice shell leather and others have very very rough leather.
Some Vass shell shoe are impossible to shine

Yep, but I figure that's inevitable with whiskey shell... the chances of you getting a perfectly smooth pair that don't show imperfections in a shade like Whiskey are incredibly low
