Visit to Chan for first real suit

Yes, but I only had three days in Hong Kong while I have much more time in Shanghai. Also, I think the greater customer attention and guidance that Chan was able to offer me was important to me as a first-time customer. At Chan, there were at any time two to three people measuring and consulting with me while at Jantzen I feel that I would have had only a fraction of Ricky's attention.

I wore it on the 3rd to my cousin's wedding, took it back to adjust the sleeve length. I have it now but won't have a chance to take pics until I get back to Austin in about a week.

It is really fantastic though, very lightweight.

I decided to add a bit of roping on the shoulders. The shirt is also by Chan. The roll of the lapel is nice but is not quite as big (i.e. the diameter of the roll) as I've seen elsewhere. Is the size of the roll dependent on the fabric, e.g. a thicker fabric like tweed would be able to form a much bigger roll than with a thinner worsted? Do the trousers look like they could be cut slimmer, or are they just right? Any other thoughts on the fit?

I think that's known as the "belly" of the lapel. The roll in on your jacket is to the second button. In either case, I would think it's a function of the stiffness and stitching of the canvas used in the lapel. I'm not sure why the belly is not as pronounced as those I've seen in pictures. Although, I've never really seen as dramatic a lapel belly in person as I have in photos. Maybe it's similar to the pinning that always occurs on jackets on mannequins.

I dunno if it was brought to your attn before, but your left shoulder drops much more than your right. It results in the left hand being lower as well, and the tiniest wrinkle near the hip on your left side. Of course, that's absolutely normal and nothing to worry about.

What kind of lapel roll did you ask for? It looks like it was rolled to the 2nd button, rather than 2 1/2. Anyway, I had the same comment about my suit. give the lapel a good steaming and it should pop right out.

The shirt looks pretty good, but a little too trim around the midsection for my taste. I'll admit though, when I first started buying custom shirts, I preferred the same fit as you. Now that I'm slightly older, and fatter, I ask for a more generous cut.
