Red Wing Men's Wabasha Boot

Average User Rating:
3/5,
  • Made in the United States, we think this Wabasha boot from Red Wing has a look you could accurately describe as Americana.? With its retro lines and tough yet supple leather and waxed canvas uppers, this boot supports your feet and keeps you all-day comfortable. Strong lacing secures the fit, while contrast topstitching adds an artisan aura. Handsome and rugged, theyre a pair for all seasons.

"Good Boots, But Not Waterproof, Not Warm"
Pros - Good looking, mini vibram sole, nice color contrast. Great to pair with denim. Quality leather laces.
Cons - Not water proof, no ankle support.
These are a fine pair of boots that I use to beat around in the colder months. They're made very well and also very handsome. Look great with a pair of dark denim and a sweater. Nice leather laces. An aesthetically pleasing boot, but a couple drawbacks. I was expecting a very basic level of protection from the elements, however, they provide little. Heavy rain, puddles, snow -- all will soak right through. If you have to wear these in bad weather, be sure to wear a pair of thick socks. They can also be a little lumberjack looking when worn well out of their context. Very little ankle support, I wouldn't recommend wearing these for a hike across any sort of rocky terrain or steep grades. Price was fair, cannot quite recall it exactly. I am a US9 and wear an 8.5 in these, with room for a thick pair of socks.

    "Amazing"
Pros - Comfy, look good, cant get beat up, easy to fix up
Cons - sizing if odd, had to go down quite a bit
awesome boot, one of my favourite pairs to wear out and about whether its a nice fall down, or when it gets snowy and slushy, kept me warm through the winter, and kept me good going to class and back all through the semester

So you would say to go a half size down with these? If I'm normally a 10, I should buy a 9.5?

ya @ $139 and the way it looks, I kinda wanna buy it just cuz the look. so i guess this is not really a "winter" boot, not to say that I am buying the chukka version of it which will be just high enough to cover the top of my ankle. but thanks for the quick response and all the info! I guess my Tretorn Strala will remain as my winter boot!

I based the portion of my review with respect to they're ability to withstand wet and cold conditions based on shoveling snow a few times last winter. I was in 5-10" of snow for about an hour and can remember it leaving my feet cold, and also water seeping through at times to my foot. Though, I did try a few times wearing very thick socks and that did work. Not perfect, but it helped. I would say these boots are more fashionable than they are functional in the rain and snow. Also bear in mind they have (waxed) canvas inserts. This does not help keep out the cold in my opinion. Note I did not waterproof these with any sort of protectant. One plus is that they come with long laces, so you can tie them around your ankles one time for a very snug fit to keep snow from entering from the top and making its way down to your foot. I would not suggest these to get you through a NE Winter. I wouldn't rely on them to get me through a VA winter, for what that's worth. I do want to restate that they are a very handsome boot, though, and may be worth the price on sale for solely that reason. The mini vibram lug sole provides a sleeker silhouette than some of the clunkier vibrams.

These are a red wing collaboration with JCrew and they were purchased from JCrew dot com (still available as of 9/15/11)
