This is one of Loafer that I bought last year and wish that this review can tell guys difference of Herring Loafer last. They use several factories as you might know.
Cheaney makes Premire shoes for them. Loakes and Barker and a factory from Spain make most Classci line of Herring shoes.
Till now I have tried 3 loafers from Herring.
One from Premire and two from Classic.
The first Matisse is that one with Cheaney 2003 last. This 2003 last is replica last of Church's 73 last.
Somehow they can't use the same name so they have twisted the name by adding 200 infront. Also they did take the 7 out.....from 73. Anyway Adrian (owner of Herring) told me this is the same last of 73 and they (Cheaney and Church's) used to make shoes together back in the time and now this 73 last belong to that two companies.
Herring Shoes is the only company that can sell Church's 73 last shoes.
No idea why but they are the only one and they sell most volume to Japan. People in Japan facinated with Church's 73 last even paying 30% import taxes when they purchase shoes from out side of Japan.
Got some more pictures for you guys for this Matisse.
Check out the back look.
Next i will show two other shoes from Herring Classic.
Tessle loafer is from Loakes and Penny loafer is from Spain factory owned by English man.
You can compare the last shape of this three shoes.
Personally I like the Penny loafer last most. But it's little pricy, it's about US$300 which i think bit expensive. Also if it has some hand burnishing on the toe would make it more valuable.
About the Tessle loafer, not much to say.
This is exactly what you get what you pay for!!
$240 price shoes, can't expect so much on it. However their finish is reasonable and its good for daily use shoes.
Next pics are comparsion pics of all loafers.
