    Board of Directors--Nonprofit

I've been asked to join the board of a nonprofit, and I'm wondering if anybody here has experience with such a thing. It's something I'm interested in--it's an arts/cultural foundation whose mission totally resonates with me--but I have no experience with nonprofits and so I don't really know...

    Booze for the Holidays

I've been commissioned to inebriate about 50 people for an upcoming Christmas party, so as usual I'm turning to you guys for ideas. I'm supposed to have some sort of eggnoggish thing and one other kind of punch, and I'd like to have a couple of good Christmas-y cocktails. Any good recipes for...

    Private Dining in Los Angeles?

I'd like to host a dinner in a private room in Los Angeles for about 30 people or so. Unfortunately, since I was born there, everyone expects me to know all the great spots--ignoring the fact that I haven't lived there since I was 18. So what do you guys think? Something with views would be...

    Cracked laptop screen?

Aaargh, I'm in the middle of an important trip and my laptop screen has developed a crack. It's still usable, but the crack is growing. Anybody know any way to stop it spreading for a few days until I get it back home & to the repair shop?

    How should we drive cross-country?

My gf and I have decided to drive across the U.S. this summer. I'm American and have done this a couple of times before, but it was back in college which was a hell of a long time ago. She's Spanish and has only seen New York and San Francisco. The plan is to get from NY to LA at a leisurely...

    Plal new site

Has anyone else seen Plal's new site? Why am I too tired/dumb to find the prices? I can still find them by clicking to the old site, I guess, but shouldn't they be on the main page? (I love their prices so much that any little change makes me worried they're planning to raise them.)

    Pick a Food/Drink Destination

If you could travel anywhere in the world but based your decision solely around food/drink, where would you go? I'm talking about a city or small region--no fair picking France or China--and I mean stuff from the place itself, so only say New York if you mean bagels and egg cream. As much as...

    Lost Radio Code...any help?

Ugh, did some work on our ancient Ford Escort and now the radio is asking for the 4-digit security code. I could have sworn we'd written it down somewhere, but...it's gone. And the mechanics say they can figure it out, but it'll cost 30 euros. Screw that. Does anybody have any ideas? Maybe...

    Hotel Recommendations in London

Any ideas for a more romantic, personal hotel in London? I've only stayed in business-type hotels, but this time I'm doing the romantic-weekend thing, so I'd like something more intimate & memorable. Any area is fine, really, and I'm thinking the 150-175 pounds per night range. Thoughts? Also...

    Flaxseed--whole? ground?

Anybody use these regularly? I've run out of flaxseed oil and somebody recommended I try buying the seeds whole and then grind them in my coffee grinder. He puts a spoonful on his morning oatmeal. Any other ideas how to use them? Will this mess up the taste of my espresso?

    Good writing about cars?

What/who do you guys enjoy reading that's related to cars? Columnists, magazines, blogs, whatever. I love reading a well-written article on driving almost as much as I like driving itself; plus, it's cheaper. Or any passages from books that capture the thrill of the road?

C&J last with narrower heel than 330?

The 330 fits me perfectly through the midfoot and toe, but I could use a narrower heel. Any suggestions from the C&J experts out there?

Crockett & Jones in Cambridge, England?

I'm going for just a quick trip. I'd thought I might have time to get to Northampton, but I won't. Does anybody know if there's a good shop in the town of Cambridge itself where I can get me some C&J's? I emailed C&J but didn't hear back yet. Also, since we're on the subject, is...

    Any Quick Help for Laryngitis?

I started to feel a cold/flu/whatever coming on yesterday, but decided the best way to fight it would be to go out last night & drink too much in a smoky bar. Good times, but I woke up today and literally cannot speak. I mean, sometimes I've had a cold and my voice would get all husky, but at...

    Do you mean it?

I enjoyed reading this reprinted article on men.style.com, which was linked from Will's Suitable Wardrobe blog: http://men.style.com/gq/features/lan...d=content_5711 One part I found really interesting was this bit about irony in dressing: What do you guys think? I never thought about it...

    Biggest Douchebag in Sports?

With Bobby Knight gone and Bonds in limbo, who do you think is the biggest douchebag currently in sports? With a tip of my hat to Mr. Belichick, I think I have to go with Gene Upshaw. http://www.mensjournal.com/feature/M...softheNFL.html http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3225087...

What martial art should I learn?

I've been considering taking up a martial art. Do you have any recommendations on how to choose one that might be right for me? Self-defense is important, but I'm also attracted by the idea of mental discipline and learning a more traditional system, maybe even some meditation. I want a...

Ugh: Does anybody actually like Doris Lessing?

I have tried many times to read her stuff. I've tried the Communist period, the feminist period, her Sufi-inspired science-fictiony period...no me gusta. And now she's up and won the Nobel...maybe they gave it to her for her cat stories? So does anybody like her? If so, can you recommend...

    What's your watch-to-wrist size ratio?

I'm not much of a watch guy, but I'm looking to get a third watch to supplement the two I wear. Most days, I wear a Tissot 34mm, and I also have a vintage Seiko which is 36mm. I realize my wrists are schoolgirl-thin (7 inches around), but it seems to me that a lot of guys' watches these days are...

    Seasonal Rotations and Storage

One of my chores for this weekend is putting my summer clothes into storage, so I was wondering how you guys approach this. How strict are you about rotating your clothes by season? How much of your wardrobe is versatile enough to keep in your year-round rotation? Do you have two well-defined...
