Dressing vs. Wearing a costume
Browse blogs, forums, websites, research and get a feel for stuff that actually speaks to you and expresses what you want to portray and then move toward that aesthetic. It takes time and I think that everyone seems to fall into the same trap you mention in the beginning.- bahlsdheep

Plastic Shoe Trees for travel
You can get them online. Depending on your shoe size, these things don't really have enough preassure to actually stretch your shoes back out, and they obviously don't absorb water/odour. Maybe try to get some of the baby cedar ones likes these instead?- bahlsdheep

Has anyone ever used a shave chart before?
It takes a while to get used to shaving with a straight (and even longer to develop stropping technique to the point where you don't cut your strop to pieces), but when you do I personally would say it's totally worth it. Yeah, I'd say that if you go that route then, have whatever you buy inspected very closely by a mechanic you trust.
