Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

2010 was the season he did the Iron Oxide jacket -- I still have mine, still barely worn.

It is frightening how many ignoramuses cannot seem to grasp that nothing Chris Rock said was actually insulting. Jada was sitting right there in the audience with a bald head (no wig, no hat, nothing). GI Jane is about an "empowered" protagonist played by the beautiful Demi Moore. You can say...

    The Ultimate Toronto Thread

I'm looking for a U.S. proxy to T.O. who can make a purchase for me this evening. Please let me know if you can help me out or have a tip someone who might. I realize there are corporate forwarding services, but I'm looking for a human being who can help me out on a one-time basis and I don't...

I just saw your post doing a search for "proxy" -- holler if you still need a hand from a Canuck. Meanwhile is there an American resident who can help me out today? I'd like to buy something from an eBay seller in Kentucky who of course forgot to enable international shipping on the one item I...

Did anyone else make a purchase from Yoox today? I bought a jacket at 45% off. My email receipt showed the wrong duty charge (50% instead of 30%) so I checked my credit card online and the amount I was charged was not discounted at all -- it did not match the amount shown on checkout. So...

He is the best Bond, period, and all his outings as 007 are enjoyable, at least two of them (From Russia With Love and Goldfinger) immensely and timelessly so. To dismiss these sixty-year-old adventure movies as offensive sexist male wish fulfillment -- as whinging demagogues inevitably do -- is...

I asked a Japan-based eBay seller about shipping policy/availability after seeing this confusing combination on an item page: I just got this reply: I have never heard of anything like it, least of all between major developed countries. (It would be one thing if one of us was in Somalia, and...

The quilted back panel has some really obvious Junya vibes which I like. The collab logo patch looks worse than a normal Barbour logo/embroidery, which seems like a bad choice or just laziness.

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

The Bond movies with villains who are "businessmen" tend to be bad ones (Tomorrow Never Dies, Live and Let Die, A View To A Kill, Quantum of Solace), though of course there are far-out plots / villains that are even worse (Die Another Day, Moonraker ...). Skyfall is beautiful and it moves well...

You mean the last time, in 2013, after Raf? That's just Rodolfo Paglialunga in the interim (I had to look up the name). I am thinking back a little farther than that, but I was by no means a disciple from the early days. My fundamental memory and conception of the Jil Sander label is simple...

Random Fashion Thoughts (Part 3: Style farmer strikes back) - our general discussion thread

Jil by Jil and Jil by Raf both interested me reliably. The Meiers' work doesn't even remind me of what the brand used to be. It's like Rousteing at Balmain after Decarnin -- a child playing in the master's sandbox. Everything they make looks to me like the sloppy version of something better ...

I still wear my +J down blazer every winter. Thank goodness the Meiers are not a part of this. Their JS is such soulless mediocrity, I haven't seen a single desirable garment in years.

Out of curiosity I just took my first-ever look at Rowing Blazers and was a bit surprised and amused to find the expected, stereotypical prep offerings supplemented by what I interpreted as vague nods to Bode, By Walid, and the kimono/inspired trend ...

Maison Margiela Replicas bought off therealreal fake or real?

As far as I know, their clothing/shoes never said "Margiela" anywhere (even on the inside) until some point after Diesel bought the brand in 2002 -- potentially only after Margiela himself exited completely circa 2009. But I have no idea whether those are legit.
