Banana Republic slim-fit dress shirts vs Brooks Brothers extra-slim fit dress shirts

Right now BB does not carry the extra slim fits in non-iron fabrics, which does make a difference from some of the BR shirts. I recently spoke to a sales associate at BB who said that the extra slim fit non-iron line will (hopefully) debut this fall, however.

    BBBF suit... useful or not?

Depends. If you're wearing a BBBF in a reasonable fashion (i.e. not like TB himself wears suits), then yes. If you size up in BBBF and hem the pants to a normal break, then it is just a well-made, slim-fitting suit. Of course, in that case, you are arguably missing the point of Thom Browne. But...

If you had up to $400 to improve your wardrobe

Depends on how much time you have to decide. If you have the luxury of waiting, great sport coats can be acquired for $200-300 here on SF -- I'd say something basic in navy. That + a pair of gray wool trousers that fit well would likely hit the $400 mark. And those two items alone will make you...

Brooks Brothers Friends & Family Sale 2010

anyone have feedback on the "Milano" pant? Im eyeballing the orange and the pink I remember seeing a thread about it earlier where someone had acquired specific measurements from Brooks on the Milano fit in pants. It seemed very slim fitting, including a particularly low rise (something like...

Belvest on Gilt in 9 minutes

Well, that wasn't worth it. Really, 5 sport coats?

NYT: Why Does This Pair of Pants Cost $550?

When it comes to chinos, I'm still trying to figure out what about my one pair of Bill's Khakis (purchased for curiosity's sake) might be superior (to the tune of 2x the price) to my J.Crew Essential chinos. So far, my answer is: nada. The US labor content doesn't explain or justify that large...

Hickey by Hickey Freeman on Gilt

I thought these Hickey suits are supposed to be slim fitting? I also had read they were half canvassed in prior posts? Are they fully fused? I ended up ordering one on Gilt b/c they had my size (38s) which is difficult to find... I hope it fits well! Forum consensus is that they're...

Hickey by Hickey Freeman on Gilt

Judging by their Isaia prices, Belvest will be ridiculous. Yeah, that's what I'm apprehensive about. Can't hurt to take a peek, though.

Hickey by Hickey Freeman on Gilt

Thanks for the advice all, I refrained. Gilt's also doing Belvest and Corneliani in the next few days, so I'll take a look at those.

Hickey by Hickey Freeman on Gilt

I can't imagine Hickey is too popular of a brand on SF, but I was wondering if anyone could speak on their suits' fit v. suits from RLBL or Hugo Red. Both of those fit me fairly well, with the RLBL obviously giving more shoulder padding. Interested in some of these suits up on Gilt right now...

BB GF Slim Fit Performance Polo Fit?

Hey, I think I'm very similar. I have a bunch of RL custom and regular fit in medium -- custom's definitely a bit short and tight in the arms, while the regular fit's a bit baggy but alright. In comparison, the BB slim fit in medium is somewhere in between those two. the arms are definitely...

    Brooks Brothers needs...

..to make the extra slim cut in non-iron. Hear hear! And I know they have more colors in store, but it kills me, I live in a college town without a Brooks Brothers (and no transportation!).

    Brooks Brothers needs...

Of course they're traditional, but they have made some concessions to the times -- witness the Milano-cut line of suits, for example. I'm just saying I'd like that trend to extend to their dress shirts.

When did you start caring about how you dressed?

That is quite an amazing odyssey, NewYorkRanger. I definitely enjoy buying new stuff, but I'm not sure if I could go through that many cycles without going crazy!

    StyleForvm Orthodoxy

    1) Depends on what you mean by staple. If you wear it once a week, that's fine. If you mean a suit you could wear three days in a row without becoming kind of obvious, then no. 2) Why not? 3) I have no idea what that is. 4) Yeah, they can be -- on odd jackets! It's also a matter of...

Ask A Question, Get An Answer... - Post All Quick Questions Here (Classic menswear)

If you're going to wear brown shoes with a navy suit, just how dark should your shoes be? Across the spectrum of AE's, for instance, there's Walnut, Saddle Brown, Brown and then Dark Brown. Would you say all could work with a standard navy suit, or are some just too light (i.e. the walnut)...

    Mismatch Blazer and Pants?

Pairing pants with a blazer, you should go with a contrasting rather than a matching shade. So with a black blazer, maybe a light gray pant would work best. Something that looks black/dark navy may not go all that well with a black blazer.
