    Can somebody recommend a good tailor in the Baltimore/DC/NOVA area?

    I too have used Melvin in the past and been happy with his work. Surly/eccentric is right, but I also find him really funny. More recently I've had a more ambitious bunch of alterations done by Mr. Moon at Chevy Chase Custom Tailor on Connecticut. I recommend him very highly.

    Pea Coats

    On the budget end, Kenneth Cole has decent ones you can pick up for $80-100 typically at Filene's Basement. I've had one in black for a couple of years that I've been happy with. They've got some nylon in them -- 10% I think -- which isn't unusual for pea coats, the remainder of course being wool.

    Always tricky when one is asking a question that comes down to a matter of taste. To each his own, and all. But since you ask -- and for what it's worth -- count me as another vote for "hideous."
