Poll: French cuffs without a suit - Yes or No?

I would never wear French cuffs without a jacket, or with jeans or chinos, but have worn them in the evening with a velvet jacket and tie and grey wool trousers. Just now I was debating doing the same thing but with a navy blazer, in the afternoon, and dialed down to silk knots, so I googled...

thoughts on flip flops? how old are you?

23, New York. Have not owned a pair since I was a sophomore, and plan on keeping it that way. When I go to the beach I wear boat shoes.

Poor taste to get 2nd marriage in same Tux?

I had a cursed ring. It was actually my Grandmother's, so it was a heirloom. Diamond went into fiance' #1's ring. End badly. Diamond went back into antique ring, ring was restored and put on wife #1's finger. Marriage ended badly. Ring sold on E-Bay to remove curse. I hope this story ends with...

what can you "afford" to spend?

^ This isn't personal.... Buying a jacket on sale is great. Wanting a jacket and then waiting 'til it goes on sale is an entirely different matter. At no point did I imply that anyone here was 'typical,' including myself. As far as my posts/time, do you think I'm posting against my will? Of...

what can you "afford" to spend?

I'd guess that the majority of people are not of the thrifter variety, and thus not being a thrifter does not necessarily make one a snob. I don't think a distaste for used items or wasting hours that I consider more productively spent on other things than finding bargains is snobby either. Used...

    Driving moccasins vs. boat shoes

I would disagree with this. Boat shoes look good in shorts only. Only true with a break! If you're willing to show some ankle, you can wear boat shoes with pants. Personally I find most things labeled "driving shoes" to be on the ugly side (techy/nubby soles that climb up your heels), but some...

what can you "afford" to spend?

If you have to wear suits to work, $225/month gets you nowhere unless you have infinity hours to blow going through leftover crap at sales, or are OK with buying low quality. No thanks. It might satisfy a yearly suit purchase, but what about shoes, socks, shirts, undershirts/wear, ties...

what can you "afford" to spend?

Thats exactly my point, even living on the cheap in NYC is expensive, if not impossible. You'll never understand it until you've done it, you want to go out for a night at a good restaurant expect to spend $80 for a couple if you dont have any drinks. Rather chose a diner? Ok $50. Pay your car...

    Cotton fabric for summer suit

    Swim trunks

Orlebar Brown These look terrific, but $180 for swim trunks is pretty rough. Think they ever go on sale? Or does anyone make similar ones for cheaper? For now I've got some Original Penguin ones I picked up at a discount last year, a little like this: but maroon. I like them fine except...

what can you "afford" to spend?

I define afforid by being able to perchase something and pay it off at once or be able to pay it off once the bill comes in. Lik when I go clothes shopping I try and use cash, and if I use my visa I never buy more then I will be able to pay off once the bill comes around. This is literally the...

what can you "afford" to spend?

i also live at home, so overheads are very little, i have no family to support. i save and i dont go out drinking very often (you'd be surprised how much you save when you dont drink!) That said, I think there's nothing unreasonable about what he's doing - if he's not going into debt, saving...

what can you "afford" to spend?

I'm a uni student so I'm obviously not wealthy at all, however I'm not stupid and don't waste my money of crap. (Most of it goes to text books , however I do spent large amounts on clothes, massive relative to my income. At no stage have I been in debt as a result. I guess I save for those...

    Are your chinos cuffed ?

I basically treat chinos as a summerweight (and slightly dressier) equivalent to jeans. I think of them the same way, meaning that neither are cuffed permanently, but I do turn or roll up the bottoms when the mood strikes me.

what can you "afford" to spend?

A week's pay after taxes sounds like about the most I ever spend on clothes in a given month. I'm in an entry-level position though, and there's no reason to think that my clothing budget will increase in direct relation to my salary. The first reason is that by the time someone is making 100k...

Double Breasted Navy Blue Blazer: Cool or Uncool?

The double-breasted blazer has a definite yacht club vibe. I've got one I'll wear to, say, cocktail parties, but not at casual out-on-the-town bars. The single-breasted is more flexible.

Finding pants for this jacket has been driving me regularly loopy lately.

What gave you the idea that it was supposed to be part of a suit? I'm pretty sure that style of trim comes from the blazers of English sports clubs/teams, especially rowing. The "tux trim" label is curious, though guess I can envision a pair of trousers with matching stripes down the...

Brooks Brothers duffle or Rugby (Worn Photos Included)

A duffle is a casual coat, and to my mind the Rugby coat is more casual and a little more stylish, a bit shorter, and proper, rugged, rope toggles, like the originals. If you want a smart coat get a chesterfield or a covert coat, if you want a casual coat get the Rugby duffle, the BB is trying...

    Tie shows through sweater

I recently picked up a v-neck sweater on heavy discount from Charles Tyrwhitt, but when I put it on over a tie, you can just see the tie through the fabric. It drives me crazy. My solution to this is tucking the tie through the front of my shirt, military-style.
