so, is it okay or not?

If you have been working 12 hour days since you were 12 you are more of a slave laborer than a spoiled brat, so trying to portray yourself as such would be a indefensible affectation.

"Where did you get that jacket?"

One evening earlier this week I was out to dinner with clients, Mr. & Mrs. X. As we were walking into the restaurant, Mrs. X ran her hand down the sleeve of my coat and asked "Where did you get this jacket? I think Averil has one exactly like it. I'm sorry ... I know you well enough ... I just...

What's the consensus on shirt cuff monograms? Tacky or not?

If I purchase custom shirts, no one else needs to know. If I want them to be monogrammed for the sake of not having them confused at the cleaners, then a discrete place, e.g. tail, inside by tag, or breast, where it's covered by my jacket. It's just tacky, otherwise. Do you honestly think people...

Looks too fruity... even to an SF'er

That. Is. Awful. And he was so proud of it too... Why did everyone lie to him and tell him it looked good? That was horrific.

What's the consensus on shirt cuff monograms? Tacky or not?

+1. It's like wearing a clapboard that says: "Hey ASSHOLE. Yeah, this shirt is CUSTOM. What, you got yours at JC Penny? Ha! I wipe ****** shirts that cost more than yours. I bet your suit isn't bespoke, either! Ha. Plebeian!" Tacky. Like having a brand name emblazoned all over your outfit...

What's the consensus on shirt cuff monograms? Tacky or not?

I don't care for monogramming, so I don't want it to be seen. But I'm just curious to know why one would get monogramming at all if it cannot be seen? Is it so that you can find it if it gets lost? So they have a justification in their minds to look down on others who don't do it the same...

What's the consensus on shirt cuff monograms? Tacky or not?

I like them and have been complimented on it multiple times by people who have noticed. I think the hidden monogram is tacky as it is such a pretentious affectation.

Chances are that you look just as ridiculous in them as you claim the detractors do - my assumption is that you look like as big a douchebag as you behave on this forum. Sorry you can't pull it off

I wear bowties, velvet blazers and ascots. Just because you look ridiculous in said items don't knock them.

should i wear a suit everyday?

I did, of course I went to a prep school so it wasn't that big of a deal but I think you should do it anyways. You can't go though life basing all of your decisions on what others will do or say, you have to do whats best for you and what you want to do. As a fellow prep school alum I can...

    Question about shortening odd jackets

This sounds more like a AAAC comment. he did have a raw try on. or at least a basted fitting. and sometime what looks ok in the tailor's shop, might seem off after wearing the garments a few times. 1/2" is a simple alteration and Ned will do it with out a fuss. He may give reasons for why the...

    Question about shortening odd jackets

Ascot, I just stopped by this post to tell you that I'm glad you're having this trouble, and to go *************. If only I had hired a successful community college grad like you to be my "image consultant" and to find links to online deals for me none of this would ever have happened!

    Question about shortening odd jackets

If the jacket was tailored for you, you should have had a fitting before it was stitched, even with a semi-bespoke your tailor should have called you back once he’d cut the cloth for a fitting. If it doesn’t fit he should correct this without charge. I strongly suggest finding a new tailor. I...

    Question about shortening odd jackets

Yes, take it back to to Mr. Ned. If the jacket has pic stitching or any sort of edge stitch, he will be able to duplicate same as original. I suggest doing only one jacket and judge the result. You may want it shortened more or less. Do one as a sample. If a tailor says he will shorten a jacket...

    Question about shortening odd jackets

1/2 inch should be fine -- anything north of an inch is very, very dicey and tends to throw the whole jacket off "Easy" is a relative term. If I was shaving this done, I would take it to - and pay for - the best tailor I could find. I am sure there are threads on this as well as an endless...

    Question about shortening odd jackets

How easy is this to do? I just got 4 odd jackets back from Mr. Ned and I think they are all about 1/2 of an inch too long. If I go back and tell them this how easy would it be to fix? Is this a fairly common and easy alteration? Also, before I go ahead, where exactly is the consensus on where...
