Need advice on how to spend $1500 in NYC on a new suit, shirt, and shoes

I'd recommend Mr. Ned for your suit. About the same price as Suit Supply, but you'll get multiple fittings and great service. (www.mrnednyc.com) Head over to CEGO for a couple shirts (www.cego.com) You'll have a few hundred left for a pair of shoes.

    tux without bowtie

You definitely shouldn't buy anything new for the occasion. Wear what you have. If it's black tie optional, there will be plenty of people showing up dressed just like the groomsmen. Tough **** for the groom. If you want to add something, wear a red pocket square.

    Uniqlo - best pieces?

I like their polo shirts. The material isn't all that soft, but they fit me better than any other brand. And at $12 or so, they're a great value.

    Critique my groomsmen suiting choices

That generally sounds fine. I don't really think it matters if the suits are notch or peak lapel. Notch is a little more versatile and can be worn for interviews, so that might be a better purchase for them. In terms of shirts, not everyone looks good in a spread color. A short heavy person...

    Advice for hunting RLBL suits

trust me, they rarely have any suits or blazers in their PSR. ive taken one saturday morning to call like 30 of them and they all didnt have anything I think you're talking about 2 different outlets. There's the "Polo Ralph Lauren" outlet, which just has junk; mostly stuff manufactured for the...

which polo shirt brand do you like most

Uniqlo fit me perfectly and are very durable. Sadly, not 100% cotton. Agreed. They aren't as soft as Polo or Lacoste, but I find that they fit me much better. And at $15, if they get stained, it's easy to throw out and buy another.

    Review: CEGO Custom Shirtmakers

I've had a bunch of shirts made by Carl. Spending time in the store, I've seen many difficult customers. Look, people coming in for custom made shirts are often weird and their idiosyncracies come out in the custom making process. As Carl has said, he's only kicked out a couple of these...

    Ercole's Manhattan Shop

I went to check out Mr. Ned a couple weeks ago and was very disappointed. The first thing he said to me was "I know EXACTLY what you want." Well, no you don't, because I haven't said anything yet. Next he told me "I can make a much better suit than what you're wearing... much better." I happen...

The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

No. cardelino is at Broadway in between 22nd and 23rd in next to Caffe[sic] Benvenuto in the Madison Green Building. I believe, however, that the father is now mostly working out of a store at 174 5th Avenue, 2nd floor (same building at CEGO).

    Altering Cashmere Sweater?

I asked the tailor about this yesterday. He said that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. He said that the seams are sometimes designed to stretch a bit (made out of the same knit) and that regular thread isn't, so it sometimes breaks. Sometimes it will work, though. I'll bring it by...

    Altering Cashmere Sweater?

A couple years ago, I purchased a cashmere cableknit sweater from J.Crew online. It was on sale, so there were no returns. It's quite nice and the length is right, but it's too wide. Can it be altered? Or would that be stupid and should I just chalk it up to a poor investment?

    Custom Woman's Coat?

One other random thought. Would a girl's coat work? It would certainly be cheaper as well. Something like this? (Just a thought) http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/i...ductId=3704332

    Custom Woman's Coat?

By the way, "surprising" her with a custom made coat won't work. She will need to be there as part of the fitting. You can surprise her with a gift certificate for a custom coat, but the odds are high that giving her a finished custom coat won't fit.

    Custom Woman's Coat?

Mr. Ned charges about $900 for a custom coat, I think. Obviously more than you want to spend, but I think it would be tough finding anything for less. This might be out there, but how about Uniqlo or Top Shop? They aren't very high quality, but you might get something cut slim for pretty cheap...

Another Wedding Attire Thread (For the Groom)

You're right that suits are more expensive then renting, but for $300, your groomsmen can buy something serviceable. A tux rental is probably $150. It's $150 more, but they'll have a suit they can wear to interviews and such. I wouldn't worry too much about the navy suits all matching. Unless...

You could also do a charcoal suit. Would she like that better?

Another Wedding Attire Thread (For the Groom)

You could wear a cranberry colored tie and white linen pocket square. I don't think, however, that having your groomsmen rent suits will work. I think it's hard to find a suit to rent and if it's possible, it's probably an awful suit. You might be better off asking them to wear plain navy...

The (hopefully) definitive thread on NYC tailors

With all due respect, I'm guessing that you're a fairly trying customer. The people at Cardelino are very patient and have always offered to redo things for me. It's got to be a rare customer that they kick out (especially spending that much money). I should add that I hope they weren't too...
