You can't adopt a dog or cat from a shelter here (Virginia) unless they've been spayed/neutered, apparently regardless of the animal's age.- kwiteaboy

My little girl a few months ago. Not sure what she is, but we think JRT and dachshund, as her sisters were very short-legged. We adopted her at about four months, and she was spayed at about three. Seems way too early and makes me think the mandatory spay/neuter law here needs some loopholes.- kwiteaboy

This is what I've seen at every school I looked at in psychology, too. In fact, professors said you absolutely should not be getting a PhD at a school where they expect you to pay for it. Professionally-oriented doctorates (e.g., PsyD, DrPH) are a different story.- kwiteaboy

As someone who just left a PhD program in clinical psych (with an MA), I'm not so sure. Professorships are terribly hard to come by, and while you can always become a practicing therapist, 7 years of grad school plus two of post-doc to make ~$60k (and likely to diminish) seems like a pretty...- kwiteaboy
