    Seiko Watches - Underrated?

I understand that sub-$200 Seikos (such as the 5 series) are essentially disposable watches one throws away once they stop functioning, but what about the medium-to-high priced Japanese domestic market Seiko mechanicals? When a watch that costs, say $500, requires service (e.g. movement...

The Watch Appreciation Thread (Reviews and Photos of Men's Timepieces by Rolex, Patek Philippe, Brei

Another picture of my JLC Grande GMT, this time on a black buffalo with contrasted stitching. Someone in this thread mentioned that he was getting a bit tired of croc / alligator straps. I would highly recommend a good quality buffalo as a sportier alternative. It's a fraction of the cost...

Anyone else had to bank transfer payment to a retailer?

I received the same message form TM Lewin after recent orders -- only, instead of a bank transfer, its customer service requested the top page of my credit card statement to verify my address and credit card number. It is very odd -- I have placed many orders online throughout the world and...

Quality of Maui Jim Sunglasses? Suggestion on sunglasses

I like my Maui Jims well enough, but I do not find them to be particularly well made. One of the lenses wiggles around the frame a bit if a bit of force is applied. The polarization is excellent, but the shading on my particular model is too bright. Great for driving a covered vehicle, but not...

    Removing Indentation from Silk Tie

Thank you for all the suggestions. In a similar vein, what do you guys do when one edge of the tie is folded incorrectly somehow, so that now the tie points on the sides are not even? Do you iron it down at a proper angle to match the other side?

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

This, too, is within the Brown Thread Meme. You are on a roll. - B Now you are trying too hard. Very un-sprezzatura, no? Let me guess, something about "Brown" and "meme" again? Predictable... rather like McDonald's or "Outback Steakhouse" I suppose.

princeton review!! OMG, no way, not the same surveys that have items such as the Yale student newspaper appear in the top-25 worst in the US and then magically in the top-25 best the following year without any apparent publication change!!!! That must be a valid survey!! I'm pretty sure my Ivy...

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

A self-deprecating Brown joke seems rather pointless. - B A self-deprecating joke is never pointless -- someone from the Harvard comedy mafia should be able to inform better.

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

I spent a weekend at Brown with an old girlfriend, I'd vouch for that However, "happiest male visitor" would have to be Mt. Holyoke . . . . I think the concept of the Seven Sister schools is outdated since all Ivy League universities now admit women and have done so since about the 70s. In...

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

Wow I didn't know that for the Americans getting or not getting into Harvard is such a massive issue that causes a lifelong feeling of superiority/inferiority. There was a self-deprecating joke at Brown: "We have had a centuries-old rivalry with Harvard -- it's just that Harvard doesn't know...

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

Truth be told, when I attended Brown, I did not find its students any more stylish than those at Harvard or Yale (okay, maybe a bit more stylish than those at MIT and Caltech). However, Brown does have a high quotient of "beautiful people" whose parents are Hollywood or music industry...

    Removing Indentation from Silk Tie

Yes, and do it while the tie is handing down off of something. What do you mean by "handing down off of something"?

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

You've got to be ****in' kidding me. Yes, I just might be "****in' kidding you"... a little. The information, however, is largely factual. That journal did report the words in the quotation mark as did Princeton Review.

    Removing Indentation from Silk Tie

I recently purchased a silk tie and found when back home that there is a vertical indentation across the middle of it (probably from being folded flat). I tried the steam from the shower method as well as the roll it and store it method and the indentation will not come out completely. I know...

I didn't get into Harvard, but I can still wear 'Harvard Yard'!

Harvard style? Bleh. Everyone (or at least Women's Wear Daily) knows that Brown students "have the strongest sense of personal style." Perhaps not coincidentally, Princeton Review 2010 found Brown students the happiest college students (in the US, presumably).

    Brooks Brothers Summer 2009 Clearance

There is a pair of shoes online that is listed as in stock. When I try to buy it, BB online site says it is not in stock but will ship in about 2 weeks. Then the next day I get message that the shipment will be delayed, followed in one more day with the message that the item is no longer...

    Do Suede Shoes Stretch More?

I don't think suede shoes stretch. Thin leather might stretch; maybe soft leather but the finish shoulder matter. I have, however, noticed that white shirts stretch less than colored ones. That brings up the question -- even from the same makers, are suede shoes made with thinner leather than...

    Do Suede Shoes Stretch More?

Holding all other variables constant, do suede shoes stretch more over time compared to finished calf shoes? I have noticed that, in my case, the answer is yes and I am now thinking about buying suede shoes 1/2 size smaller than my finished calf or shell cordovan shoes (assuming same...
