Those are really smart. Wasn't aware they made loafers but I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The boots were my first pair from them, as they were my first thought for MiE 'urban' boots that weren't sleek. Would buy from them again. I think they offer good value for money.

That's why I bought the identical (in look) Meermin knockoffs. And I actually do wear them as a rough country boot now. They cost more than my Solovair! Shocking.

That price is insane for AS. I just paid only £20 less for my Solovair! And they will be in a different league. If I needed a brown boot and they had my size...

I've found the quality of Portuguese made shirts and knitwear really phenomenal. Seems like a bargain.

I love the look of waxed cotton as it ages. Gets such a great patina. Good for layering too. The factory isn't far from me, so I feel obligated to have one. And great pockets for shooting. Not actually great as a waterproof, unless you're conscientious about rewaxing. Sadly they only make two...

Not a post for any challenge but I haven't been thinking about style much lately. 100% WFH (work from home) looking set to stay forever and since my home office is in the attic, it's all about re-assessing what I wear. No more GYW shoes required (at desk anyway) and no more trousers, shirts or...

Yes, I noticed how odd that high street places like Next have logos now, actively aping the placing and style of brands like RL and All Saints (ugh). I don't get it. It loses its meaning as conspicuous consumption. So strange.

Only got one J Crew item; an extortionate denim shirt that was on sale. Very heavy denim. Tend to only wear it in summer ironically, as extremely slim fitting. Good on cooler days where you don't want a light jacket. A lot better quality than any RL polo denim I've come across. Would definitely...

See in the UK, J Crew is waaaay more expensive than RL. RL polo is just ubiquitous. They've cheapened the brand by having it constantly in TK Maxx, and not the bad stuff or weird sizes either.

I certainly wouldn't pay it. I don't wear Patagonia either but if a choice between the two, it's an absolute no brainer. Has it's own connotations however. I'd sooner be associated with it though.

I also have a no logo rule. Don't even wear FP polo's anymore. In the North of England and tbh, all of the UK outside of certain bits of London (and even then...) you can't wear Stone Island or CP without severe football hooligan connotations. Connotations isn't actually the right word either...

Indeed. I was recently outbid on a black aquascutum one. Never worn, maybe a third of retail. Possibly even MiE.

That's not horrendous. I've just checked their most recent classic trench and it's going for c. £1500 and is made in Italy for this run. They seem to change where it's made frequently. At least the makers there will be on a decent wage, hopefully. A little more reasonable.

I just couldn't bring myself to pay £1k+ or whatever it is for something made in Asia... Not knowing their daily rate. That's semi bespoke heavy overcoat territory in much of the EU.

I think, at Sandhurst at the very least, that Dege and Skinner make bespoke, at no cost to the officers. Can you imagine?

It's not even just that. Aquascutum and Burberry trenches generally aren't made in the UK any more (I haven't checked any too recently). Best getting something from Private White VC. Probably slightly cheaper to boot and definitely better quality materials.

Here and now today now that the weather is English again. Rainy and without humidity. Clouseau and Loake Royal's. But not any Loake Royal's - for two reasons. Firstly, the original is my dad's favourite shoe and I don't want to wear my dad's favourite shoe. And secondly, the 624 is on a *much*...

Fortunately I've only ever elicited 'Columbo' comments from wearing beige/stone trench coats. Only from blokes come to think of it. Always get great comments from women, often saying they want one. I'm still just about young and trim enough for Harringtons to not have any bad connotations. But...

I think current style influences is an interesting topic, especially as you age and move away perhaps from music influences. I must admit, I also find it hard to think of (m)any that are fully responsible for dressing themselves. Clooney, Leo, David Gandy (further up). All look great. But how...

I tend not to wear shorts but it's unbearable here now for an Englishman. 26° and 64% humidity. No ac in the home office where I am reluctantly permanent now. Only a Dyson. I had thrown out all my tailored shorts it would seem, so only denim left. Tend to wear short linen, light Oxford shirts...
