    The Home Ownership Thread

First company that came out gave me a $2400 estimate! I told them they must have thought this was the Booth residence and to kick rocks. I called a local guy and he and his apprentice got it done in an hour for $400. I gave him an extra 100 out of sheer relief!

Thanks! Kinda what I figured the correct answer would be, and beyond my comfort area, which is why I have an appt. with a plumber today :)

Nah, the previous owners lived here from '64-2019. They took good care of the place. If anything I'm mad at myself for not noticing the patch and replacing that portion when we had the kitchen gutted in 2020.

Can our resident plumbing expert @Numbernine weigh in here? Need to replace the horizontal portion of this drain. If you look closely you can see the end of a fernco that is connecting what is left of the original galvanized to abs. However the galvanized now has a hole in it that’s peeking...

I've finally sunk my teeth into BG3. It's pretty impressive in a lot of ways. My biggest complaint so far is the camera/environment is sometimes hard to navigate and it can be a chore to move your party accurately into the position you want.

Is there a dedicated gardening thread on here, or do we just usually throw things in here in the home-ownership thread?

Things That Are Bothering You, Got You All Hibbeldy-Jibbeldy, or just downright pissed, RIGHT NOW!

I'm in the the throes of a period of deep self-consciousness. Not physically, but socially mostly. I'm 39, is this my midlife crisis? I find myself in a near constant state of anxiety or introspection about questions like, "am I being a good friend?" "What was the point of me saying that?" and...

Talking stocks, trading, and investing in general

In the Seattle area of my youth this was called a "schooner." Almost always served in a what looked kind of like a miniature pilsner glass. I've since come to find out that elsewhere a schooner is usually a larger than normal beer. At any rate, schooners are mostly a thing of the past (as are...

I actually came here to complain about the lockdown at my school today! We had a lockdown and it was ******* bedlam. I know disciplining students for lack of "compliance" is problematic and compliance in general has become a dirty word in education, but as it turns out, if you don't really hold...

OFFICIAL THREAD: General Cookery and Discussion

I really tested the proof of concept of my "early turkey" strategy for optimal Thanksgiving meal preparation this year. The Turkey was out of the oven by 9:30 am, tented, and had a few towels thrown over for insulation. This allows one to free up the entire oven, deglaze the roasting pan and...
