The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I insured everything through Hodinkee after I had my Batman stolen. I’ll be sure to give them a call to discuss the possible discount. Thanks for bringing this to the thread’s attention.

Maybe some of the Waffle House aficionados from this thread can help you decide.

As you imply, the home safe is the way to go. I just haven‘t gotten around to it. Part of my lax approach to buying a safe is that I drive directly by the bank on my way to work. They know me and I can be in and out in five minutes.

Thanks. I’m an old. Not @Texasmade old but old nonetheless. I compete Rx within my age bracket.

I think that you’re probably right about the illegality but I consider some legal things to be unethical while some illegal things are ethical.

Less ethically challenging but not completely so. Think ivory sales. I‘m happy with my cotton version as it serves its purpose well.

Those PP breguet are incredible. If I were limited to one watch, the 5196P would be it. But my choice was the aforementioned 5170g.

This thread seems like the right place for this sad news. As good a tailor as he was, his life story could be a Hollywood movie. This obit is from the front page of NYT.

My bank branch closed so I had to move my watches to a safety deposit box at a different branch. I think that this is the first shot with slot four filled. Slot one (inexpensive travel watch) doesn’t reside in the box.

It is not “real” Astrakhan. For me, the real fur is harvested unethically. I have no interest in the real thing.

The Astrakhan collar and lapel are removable. I usually wear my coat with an all black Astrakhan.

Even though one of my two tailors does not like working with Fox flannels, I could not resist buying a length of this. We’ll see what he says.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

Good stuff with a small stylistic quibble. The second row of buttons seems, at best, superfluous. The wide lapels really push the second row out very wide. Why not skip the second row as they are non-functional and a bit incongruous being so far out?

Vintage Watch Thread (Pre-1990's watches only)

@DavidLane made this strap with 1950s leather salvaged from French ammo pouches. It is a perfect match for this 1951 Tissot that I purchased at auction recently.

My four slot (worn with sports coats or sweaters) is finally complete. @DavidLane made the strap with leather salvaged from French ammo bags from the early 1950s. As the watch is from 1951, it was a perfect match. And as an added bonus it matches @Texasmade‘s birth year.

Tofani used it as trim on the lapels of this coat. I have subsequently commissioned one in solid black for less contrast.
