how to match burgundy boots for every day wear

Throw a some layers of burgundy polish on that thing. It needs to be darker. Assuming the time to return has passed (if you're a student, you could have spent your $200 better than on a pair of red leather boots) then the above is a good idea. In fact it may be better to use some black or dark...

    Advice on Herringbone Overcoat

Versace actually runs slim and long in at least some garments, so you'd want to compare the measurements of that 46R jacket to a well-fitting 44L sportcoat of yours. (Obviously you will need to make sure that the 46R provides enough extra room to fit the other jacket underneath.) Looking at...

What is the best Rain / Trench coat ever?

What does the ideal traditional double-breasted trench look like? I personally don't like the shoulder flaps -- what are those for anyway? Are they like the shoulder patches on shooting coats? It's still called a gun flap which makes sense given the trench coat's military origins, but...

Should I wear the same suit for two formals?

Nobody can really answer this question for you -- it's all relative based on how much money you have, how much you're planning to spend on a suit, and how often you'll wear suits in the future. That said, a plain charcoal suit wouldn't be noticeable if worn twice, and you can use it in the...

Polo custom fit vs. classic fit

Just get a different brand of polo. I can vouch for the fact that Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece slim-fit polos in Medium are larger in the chest than PRL Custom Fit M, but smaller in the chest than PRL Classic Fit M/Custom Fit L. I'm sure you could also check out Lacoste or Fred Perry.

    Slim Fit Overcoat?

If it's slim fitting over a suit jacket , it's not going to look slim fitting without a suit jacket underneath. If it's slim fitting without a suit jacket, it's not going to be wearable with a suit jacket. You'll have to pick one or the other -- in the end, you probably will want one overcoat...

    what color corduroy?

British khaki and tan are a lot easier to pair with shoes than mid- to dark browns are (for me anyway). Basically, you can wear them with anything that you'd wear khaki chinos with, which is a lot. I like these: http://www.jcrew.com/mens_category/p...cord/28928.jsp I'd also wear gray, navy and...

The fine line between dressing like an old man and a sharp GQ/Esquire guy.

Your biggest problem is the photography. It's from below your waist and shots taken from a lower angle always make people look fat. (Just as shots taken from a higher angle are slimming.) Your physique definitely isn't a problem since even if you may not be "fit" you still have a large...

What is Inappropriate Job Interview Attire

I have several interviews with Big 4 and Global 6 accounting firms and I do not want to dress too much like an accountant.... I am ready for criticism. You're an idiot. You're interviewing at an accounting firm, dress like a ******* accountant. This means: conservative suit blue or white shirt...

Henley or rugby over a shirt and tie?

First look -- why is the henley outside of the shirt? It's an athletic piece or a thermal layer. Doesn't make sense. Second look -- two collars? no thanks. Seriously, just wear a V-neck sweater over a buttondown collar shirt. No tie necessary. It's casual.

    Dealing With Bad Customer Service...

Umm, if you are in the US just go to the local military surplus store. They all sell these and they're all over the place. It doesn't excuse the ****** service, but you do have to understand that this company does 99% of their business selling to the US military and to military surplus stores...

    Shoes for a hindu

Why wouldn't you get some imitation leather captoes with a rubber sole? They'll look pretty much like patent leather captoes, which are perfectly viable shoes for a wedding.

Navy blazer with solid buttons vs gold buttons

Sure, technically it might become a sportcoat, but to me, metallic buttons look too formal on a jacket worn with jeans. I would go with brown or black horn (I personally replaced the metal buttons on my blazer with black horn), although the MOP option suggested is also a good one.

Appropriate Monetary Gift for a Wedding

You are right -- the "per plate" paradigm does break down in the proposed scenario. Thus convinced, I retract what I previously said. I still think that "pay based on your relationship to the guest" is also not a terribly helpful guideline. So here's what I would now suggest...

Appropriate Monetary Gift for a Wedding

True, I think of it more as "what would I pay for a decent meal and drinks at a restaurant", which obviously doesn't take the costs of the flowers, venue, DJ, whatever other random crap the bride wants to waste money on into account, but I admittedly am small-timer at this stage of my...
