    19 year old seeking advice

While this might sound harsh to the OP, baggy pants and a higher rise are probably his friend at his body type. I don't notice a lot about other men's clothes. Nothing seems more unprofessional to me than when some bigger guy wearing slim fit, flat front, low rise pants is sitting and you can...

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I think most men who put effort into how they dress do so to improve how others perceive them, even if that's only their wives/significant others. After all, no one puts on black tie to dine at home and watch Sunday Night Football. It's certainly possible to be overdressed. To use a recent...

    12" Drop Suit Issue

If you're really a 12" drop, I doubt you'll find anything that fits right without going MTM or bespoke, even after alterations. You can't take in more than about 2" on the jacket before it throws off the balance with the pockets. Alternatively, the really slim fit suits may have enough waist...

White Tie and Tails In the Modern Era

If you have to rationalize an outfit, by the hosts were fans of Downtown Abbey, that should answer your question.

Is black suit an acceptable business attire?

In at least partial defense of beating the dead horse, I read the first 50 pages of responses and found lots of responses about alcohol, semantic debates about the meaning of words, philosophical debates about whether fashion rules exist at all, and rehashing of old internet grudges, but very...

I'm steamed: Half-canvassed Jos A Bank suit is fused and bubbling

I would look at some of the jeffreyd posts. He's gone into a lot of detail on this. Did this bubbling appear gradually over time or did it look fine before its last trip to the dry cleaners?

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

This thread is approaching the point of diminishing returns, but I'll end with yes, I believe some fabrics cost a lot more than others and no I don't believe that there's much difference in the colors you see in a image taken with a high quality camera compared to in real life, if you control...

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

While Zegna could use different dyes with their fabrics, I suspect most of what you're identifying as better is having a very glossy finish, which would be a function of the fabric and the weave. Mohair is known for having a sheen and being slightly shiny.

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

I know what you meant, but there's a difference between what NYDRH was implying, where you look at the guy across the room and trying to recall from memory which fabric was the closest match in color to having a swatch book in front of you to see if something is a perfect match. Here's an...

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

The human eye can detect up to about 256 shades in each color component(R, G, B) in well lit conditions, so you might notice very slight differences in color when two swatches are placed side by side. However, the human memory, unless you're very exceptional, doesn't store color information with...

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

Not really, if you're going for a dark navy. If you have too little luminosity, you get something that looks almost black. If you have too much luminosity, you get a medium blue instead of a dark blue. If you have too much red, you get a purplish tinge. If you have too much green, you get a...

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

I don't see how the color could be distinct, at least if you stick to conservative business dress. There's only so many possible shades of dark navy and charcoal grey, and I'm sure they've all been done before by a variety of manufacturers at a variety of price points.

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

Have you ever personally experienced bubbling with one of your suits and how long ago was the suit purchased?

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

If you're implying that higher end suits will outlast cheap suits, my understanding is that fusing has improved to the point that any bubbling is very rare on modern suits, which seemed to be one of the main durability problems with cheap and fused suits in the past. Hence, the benefits of a...

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

Yes, but isn't that bespoke? I wonder if the improved fit versus OTR is what people notice more than anything.

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

Here are three suits that range from what I consider cheap to expensive. Maybe, they're all photo-shopped, but to my untrained eye, I might notice something about style(number of buttons, lapel width), but beyond that they all look about the same.

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

What about it would women notice: the cut/design, the fabric quality, construction, or all of the above?

Expensive Suits - Can anyone tell

Will anyone be able to tell how cheap or expensive the suit that you're wearing is? By cheap, I'm still thinking of something at least 100% wool.
