    Anyone Writing off their clothes?

Agreed - it is very, very unlikely that you could deduct any clothing expenses. You'd have to check with your accountant to be sure, but deducting clothing is a sure fire way to get audited. I am not a tax lawyer (just a simple litigator), but my understanding of the tax code is that a suit...

Anyone have experience with this Ebay Seller?

I bought an Oxxford suit from Dr. Jeans. Overall, I'd rate the transaction as acceptable. The suit was genuine, nice quality and the measurements were accurate. I guess I was lucky because the seller responded to two questions I had. On the other hand, the pants were advertised as having pleats...

    Tailors Everywhere

In Downtown Boston I like Beauge's Tailoring in Pi Alley (off Washington St.) I've never had a problem with his alteration work.

    Recommended Cleaners

In the Dry Cleaning horror thread someone mentioned the idea of a recommended cleaners thread. I absolutely agree. Personally, I am looking for recommendations in Boston or the metrowest suburbs.

    Shirt Laundering

Thank you all for the great responses. Looks like I need to find a new dry cleaner. While I'd love to iron on my own I simply do not have the time.

    Was this a good Deal?

I think that is a very good deal. I've seen these shoes in person and I think they are much nicer and more elegant than shown in the picture. I agree with a previous poster that I really love these in brown/cognac. Enjoy them.

    Shirt Laundering

Following the excellent advice I received on this forum, I washed my dress shirts last week and brought them to my cleaner for ironing only. Well... when my wife picked up the shirts today the owner told my wife that he laundered and ironed them. She expressed concern letting the owner know that...

Filene's Basement - Boston:  Louis has arrived

FB in downtown Boston has received its Louis Boston shipment. Decent selection of shirts, sweaters and coats. I know a few of you will be interested to know that FB had 3 pairs of Vass brown loafers for $399. Sizes were 43, 44 and 45. I tried to find the model on Vass's website but had no...

Peal & Co. made in Italy??

I don't have the answer but "deja vu" I had a very similar thought this morning. I am wearing a pair of Brooks Brothers (not Peal) Penny Loafers that are made in Italy. Does anyone know who makes these for Brooks?

    Doing business casual well

90% of the time I am able to match and feel comfortable about the look of the coat, pants and shirt. The other 10% I take the coat off and go with wool pants and a button down all day. Personally, I think the houndstooth and glen plaids just look better than a herringbone jacket or a plain blazer.

    Doing business casual well

Johnny, like you, I am a lawyer in a business casual office. I generally wear a coat 2 to 3 times a week. I have at least 4 sportscoats that I wear - a solid blue, a black and grey houndstooth, a brown glen plaid and a blue and tan houndstooth. All of very nice quality picked up on Ebay or at...

Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece Dress Shirts

I don't know about the Golden Fleece shirts but I can confirm that the "Luxury" line shirts are slimmer fitting. I believe they are about 2 1/2 inches slimmer than BB's regular line. I really like the fabric and construction of these shirts. The buttons, while thicker than normal BB...

Louis Boston Sale Dates - Jan. 8 to Jan. 17.

I just got an e-mail from Louis indicating that its Fall/Winter sale will begin on Saturday January 8. Here is the text of the e-mail: Virtually all our regular Fall & Winter merchandise - Mens & Womens clothing, Sportswear, Shoes, and Accessories - all on sale and all at great savings...

Are the "luxury" BB shirts any slimmer fitting?

Yes, they are about 2 and 1/2 inches slimmer than the regular BB shirts. I believe the difference between the regular fit and slim fit is about 5 inches. I recently bought a number of the luxury line shirts and they are excellent - especially at $130 for 3. The fabric is great - construction...

Paul Fredrick, Brooks Brothers, Lands End

Until the end of the day today you can get 3 Brooks Brothers "Luxury" shirts for $118. I like the regular Brooks line - particularly the non iron - and have also bought Lands End shirts. Trust me, the luxury line shirts are much, much better than either. The fabric is excellent. If it...

    Does a 38R need/want an Oxxford suit?

Yeah I picked up the taupe suit. Absolutely great fabric. It is a very soft Super 120s winter weight. I've never been lucky enough to spot an Oxxford at 75% off. There was also a chocolate brown 40R at 50% off that I passed on. If that moves to 75% I'd definitely pick it up.

    Does a 38R need/want an Oxxford suit?

Anyone in Boston should check out the Downtown Filenes. They have a number of Oxxfords at 50% off, which is about $500. I just bought a beautiful glen plaid suit in 40R. I am sure they will go fast.

    Mistake at the tailor

Johnnynorman - you're in Boston, right? If so, try Breagues (might be slightly misspelled) in Pi Alley for tailoring. I've had great luck with him. He's done two coats for me perfectly.

    Choose between two shoe models....

Tom: I own many pairs of both Aldens and Allen Edmonds and as others have said, the Aldens are nicer shoes. The leather on the Aldens is much better than the Edmonds. That being said, I, like you, had little previous experience with expensive shoes. Bottom line is that both the Edmonds and the...

    Looking for shoe trees?

If you're looking for shoe trees, e-bay seller allenedmonds (apparently affiliated with the company) is selling Allen Edmonds woodlore shoe trees for $13 plus shipping. 3 shoe trees works out to $45 shipped. This is a very good deal for nice shoe trees. By the way, I am in no way affiliated with...
